Lunch rut
Again.
Im trying to keep things as healthy as possible. Im also trying to reduce sugar...omg the sugar this kid gets his hands on!
Anyhoo, Im waiting for him to get sick of the current choices, but here is what he currently gets:
-Annies mac and cheese (all natural? He loves it) -Natures promise whole wheat bread with cream cheese cut into fun shapes. He eats it at school, wont eat it at home. -yogurt (usually after any of the others on the list) -turkey burger patty with ketchup -barilla plus pasta with butter and parm cheese (omg, he is going to get sick of this soon) and minced up broccoli and cauliflower (sneak it in there)
Ive tried sunflower butter, wont eat it Jelly, wont eat it (although never tried sunflower butter with jelly before) Tuna, wont eat it Chicken, eats it sometimes Cold cut sandwiches, wont eat them anymore He hates cheese, pizza
Anything else I could try? He eats so much pasta!!!
ETA: He wont eat soup

Re: Lunch rut
Since he likes turkey burgers, maybe try veggie burger patty with ketchup. There are so many varieties and flavors out there that are really good. Also, turkey dog, hummus on bread or veggies, tomato and cucumber salad. Dd also loves eggs anytime of the day. Ill do like a southwest scramble or add spinach and tomato to switch it up.

Re: Lunch rut
Will he eat a plain hard boiled egg with fruit?
Since you say he eats turkey burgers you could try turkey or chicken meatballs.
I mix the meat (I usually use turkey) with parmesean cheese, flavored bread crumbs, parsley, egg and yes 1tsb ketchup (you don't taste it).
Brown them in a pan then pour in low sodium organic chicken stock and finish cooking in the stock. When cooking in the broth eith add in cherry tomatoes or organic diced tomatoes. I also thrown in diced carrots and peas. Serve just the meatballs and veggies if you want to cut back on pasta or serve with whole wheat pasta.
Grilled cheese with tomato slices.
Carrots or crackers with hummus.
I make french toast - in a bowl I mix one egg, cinnamon and vanilla. Dip the bread in and throw it in a pan. My girls eat theirs plain without syrup.
My girls also like chicken apple sausage. Natures promise makes one they like.

Re: Lunch rut
In our house my kids eat what I give them and if they dont, they dont eat. I know it sounds harsh but this is how I was raised and so far its working really well for us. I dont give them anything special. They eat what we eat.

Re: Lunch rut
Here's what we do for lunch:
grilled cheese (sometimes I add spinach) scrambled egg w cheese (add spinach or broccoli) quesadilla w/ shredded bbq chicken and cheese ravioli w/sauce leftover chicken parm w/ brown rice and veggie leftover meatloaf w/ baked potato "fries" cream cheese and banana sandwich (surprisingly good) you can cut up some org chicken sausage and mix it with brown rice and chopped broccoli, add a little chicken stock so it's not so dry
Just bought fish sticks at Trader Joe's to try just bc I wanted some variety for his lunch. I usually make everything myself but figured I'd cut myself some slack.
DS is a great eater but does not eat snacks throughout the day. Sometimes he'll have a late afternoon snack but that's it. I think this probably contributes to his good eating.
lots of times I freeze individual portions of leftover dinner and use it for lunch - I used to feed him dinner for lunch all the time but felt like he was consuming 3 "heavy" meals a day so I lightened lunch up a bit.

Re: Lunch rut
I've been getting a lot of great ideas from Once A Month Mom. It's all about freezer cooking and the recipes are delicious.

Re: Lunch rut
Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
I want to try adding bananas to the sunflower butter...maybe then he will eat it. He loves sunflower seeds, but not digging sunflower butter.

Lunch rut
I am crashing to add something that I really like that might be healthy and fun to eat - morning star chikn nuggets. They are vegetarian, I'm not but I started buying them because it was a quick meal that I felt was healthier than regular chicken nuggets. Now I like them even better.

Re: Lunch rut
morning star chikn nuggets
Morning Star products are actually very, very unhealthy. They contain Genetically Modified Ingredients, Egg Whites, Preservatives and are Soy- based. IMO, anytime you take a legume and chemically manipulate it into a faux nugget the end result is not one of health. GMOs are dangerous for all of us, but especially for growing bodies and maturing reproductive systems. Soy, especially non-organic, gmo'd and unfermented is associated with estrogen disturbances if eaten frequently. Egg whites are a major allergen for children under 5. Reactions can be so subtle and mild or can be life threatening. It's just a protein that I wouldn't be so cavalier about giving if I didn't have to. If it's frozen and in a box then it's likely not the best to feed to children. There are healthier options for processed food though. Sorry to spoil your fun.
To answer the OP...We make quesedillas a lot. I can hide a lot of veggies in there.
