Winthrop University Hospital Review
Hello ladies.
I will be delivering my LO at Winthrop In October and wanted to know if any of you ladies delivered there before.
How was your experience? How was your room? Did you have to share? We're you satisfied with the staff? Did you go to the orientation?
Thank You so much ladies.

Re: Winthrop University Hospital Review
I just delievered there in February. I lovvvvvvvvvvvvvved Winthrop. The staff was so accomadating whenever i needed a nurse they were super fast to come to my assistance. I was there for 4 days, i had a c section. I was alone the first 3 days the day I was being discharged another woman was brought up. So never actually shared the room. I didnt go to any orientation. I just made sure where to go on the day of my c section and where to sign in. That was it. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Winthrop. And you may have heard they try to push the baby staying in the room with you at night. THIS IS NOT TRUE. At night if i was in to much pain or too tired (i did not breastfeed) there were no questions asked and the baby was taken to the nursery and brought back the next morning.

How was your experience? A+
How was your room? Did you have to share? I was put into a double the first night but moved into a private room the second morning (I had to pay the difference, $220 per night). Worth every penny.
We're you satisfied with the staff? Yes. There was one nurse who was a little pushy, seemed aggrivated that I was requesting pain meds but the rest were awesome!
Did you go to the orientation? nope! never took a tour, no orientation. We walked in the front doors and were pointed in the right direction and off we went.
Thank You so much ladies.

Winthrop University Hospital Review
Winthrop was good, not great. The room was fine, small, not fancy, knid of drab (not that you need anything fancy). I was in a double, but did not share the room at all- just before I was discharged, another couple came in. Staff was nice, nurses and attendants were attentive. Delivery nurses were awesome Didn't do any orientation. Baby roomed in with us, which was great. Showers are not private (kind of yuck), I would bring flip flops. Food also was not great- it is good if DH or family will bring you in some take out!

Re: Winthrop University Hospital Review
I just gave birth there on Thursday. My water broke and I was admitted the night before I had my DS. Most of the nurses were really nice except for one that I dealt with when i was first admitted... I was getting frustrated that I wasn't dilating at all but going through painful contractions, one of the nurses said "this is is your first what do you expect" like attitude wise.. ok really..
but other than that i had a good experience. I did end up having a private room thank goodness.
i never took a tour or classes or anything and was fine.
good luck!

Re: Winthrop University Hospital Review
How was your experience? Ehh, it was ok and my husband worked there at the time. How was your room? Did you have to share? I had a private room, it was a little plain, but had it's own shower. We're you satisfied with the staff? I love my L&D nurses, they were amazing! The nurses on the floor were ok. Some were great, but some were awful. I had a pretty awful one the first night I was there, but the nurses the next day and night were really helpful and nice. Did you go to the orientation? No, but I lived across the street and my husband was a resident there so I sort of felt like I knew where to go and what not.

Winthrop University Hospital Review
I liked it. Although it was annoying having to share a room with somone who had their baby in there when mine was in the NICU. She left earlier than I did after the second night, and they had a new girl already in before I checked out.

Winthrop no longer charges for private rooms and it is always our intent to keep patients in private rooms. Patients do have the option to request a private room. They are offered based on availability at the time of your delivery. Best wishes, Winthrop Staff (Karen)

I could have written this myself as this was my exact experience for both of my kids births. The only extra plus is that the 2nd time, they gave me more support & assistance with bf but also had no problem giving me a bottle of similac when ds was unconsolably hungry.
edited to add that I did go to a hospital tour before delivering my 1st. It was really helpful b/c I had never been in winthrop proir.
