My 14 Month old wont brush teeth!!
Every night it is a struggle.. He closes his lips shut and will not open them.. He shakes his head side to side to mean no.
How do you ladies get your little ones to brush their teeth?

DD thinks it's a funny joke and will hold the toothbrush but it's impossible for me to get it in..I need help, too!

My 14 Month old wont brush teeth!!
DS loves when I brush his teeth, I started at 4 months though, but only advice I can give you is buy some cool toothbrushes: with Elmo, Cars whatever he likes and try it again. Plus after you are done let him try it and play with the toothbrush for a while.
Make it fun, play or sing a song. Ask him to say A or Roar like a lion.

Plus there is a lot of books for kids too:
Brush your teeth please is a very good one, Barnes and Noble has it.

Maybe he's teething & he thinks it's going to hurt.
DD used to love when I brushed her teeth but the last few weeks she screams at the sight of a tooth brush & I'm pretty sure it's because she's teething.
It's frustrating but hopefully it's one of their phases that passes quickly.

The only thing that has sort of helped me is a battery powered toothbrush!
My dh holds LO and I stick the toothbrush in her mouth and get all the teeth!lol! She doesn't love it but I get a better cleaning with that type of toothbrush!

I got a 2nd toothbrush so i let her hold one so she thinks shes doing it herself & then i sneak in w/ the other brush & brush. Its been working for us.

do you have a cool character? and some yummy tasting toothbrush? We got DS into brushing his teeth bc he would see me and DH brushing and then would ask him "do you want to brush your teeth?" and he loved it. Now at 16m he doesnt want us to hold the brush, he wants to do it himself.
I agree with the other posters, maybe teething is going on and it hurts, I would just keep trying, eventually they will want to try it. Or try to brush yours at the same time, they like to mimic mommy and daddy.

A wife of a dentist once told me to sit them on your lap facing you, lay them down and they automatically open their mouths.
It works and dd hates it so now she brushes or she knows shes gonna lay down

our dentist told me lay her on the bed to brush her teeth and make it fun. so i sing abc when we brush she laughs winwin

We sing a song:
Brush, brush, brush your teeth
Brush your little teeth
Up and down and all around
You've got to get them clean
I also heard if you lay them down with their head hanging off the side ( of your lap/changing table) their mouth will fall open.
My son gets a turn and then I get a turn. Sometimes we look or silly food he ate..."did you eat hot dogs today? I think I see some ketchup"

my son was the same and then someone posted this tip and it works! every.single.time! he loves it
i get him to open his mouth by telling him that he has food back there and we need to get it out, things he ate throughout the day ...
"jack - i see strawberries back there! Open up so I can see them! Oh, and cheese! you have cheese back there! And some milk!!!!! LOOK some chicken! There is chicken in there! And a COOKIE!"
you get the point. he loves it. now he even calls out random foods which he never even eats  or he'll come to me after dinner and say "mama, gotta get the chicken out"

I have tried it all! lol
I have gotten all the different tooth brushes with all different types of characters.
I have the diff types of flavored tooth paste.
I have tried the laying him down method.
I sing, I dance, I joke.. He wont open up hehehehe..
Tonight I tried holding him looking in the mirror. That seemed to work for a couple of seconds. I may just try that for now and see how it goes.
Thanks though ladies! Maybe Ill just keep trying all the diff ways. Hopefully this is a phase.
I do know he is getting teeth, but he never let me in there so I dont know
