2 questions
The past couple of months I have noticed a little more aggression in Shamrock when we try to take something from him that he isnt supposed to have. I can take away food, bones or even his toys but if he gets a hold of my socks, underwear or towels we cant get it from him. On Saturday he even showed his teeth and went to snap at me when I was trying to get it from him. I dont want to bring a trainer in for this because its not all the time and only with certain items. Someone at work told me its because its my stuff and it has my scent on it, he doesnt want to let it go. I dont know how much I believe that.
Any ideas???
Oh another thing... Shammy has been neutered since he was 6 months old. yesterday when DH was playing with him we noticed he had a little erection. I though once he was neutered that wouldnt happen.
Whats up with this? (no pun intended lol)

The first one I dont't know the second one as I pointed out to someone yesterday the dog still has his penis he's just shooting blanks. Kind of like if your husband got neutered.

Re: 2 questions
To the first: When Lilah was a puppy, DH tried to take a bone away from her and she growled and snapped at him.... He "put her down" (the way Cesar Milan does - hand at her neck and right to the floor) and said "NO!" (Well what he really said would come up as ** on here! ). We've used this on both of our dogs and it really helps them know who's boss. She's never snapped at either of us again... and we can take anything away from them.
To the second: Sam gets that too... just a bit excited, but can't do anything with it. Doesn't happen offten though.

Re: 2 questions
The erection thing is normal! Happened to Chewie a bit - the first time freaked the shit outta me!
With the aggression, I agree about using the Cesar method. Stay completely calm, put him in a down position, say NO forcefully and hold him in the down until he relaxes his body and rests his head on the floor (this is the sign of submission).
Good luck!

This 100%. I have a 70lb American Bulldog(all muscle). I will jump right on top of her and pin her down to let her know I am boss!! You need to show you are the alpha personality. Do not let him get away with it or else it will develop into more.

Re: 2 questions
Thanks everyone- I am going to try the Ceaser Milan thing. The only thing is that he usually runs underneath the dining room table and I cant catch him sometimes. Hopefully there wont be a next time.
Thank you for the answers to the 2nd question. Mer- when it happened it freaked me out too. Im like, "Jerry what the hell is that? Is he ok?"

Be careful with this. My dog started to get aggressive over rawhide bones and while I agree that you need to put a stop to it, if he runs under something or behind something, he is likely to become more aggressive. My dog used to hide behind his crate and he'd bare his teeth if we approached him because he felt cornered. For a long time we just didn't give him the bones period, but years later someone brought him over one and we figured we'd try it and see how he is. And out of nowhere, he was fine. He let us take it away from him and give it back without any issue.
The only other thing I can think of besides a show of dominance is to try to distract him with something better that he is allowed to chew on. I know it is dangerously close to a reward for bad behavior, but after he is away from whatever he was chewing on in the first place, I'd hold it up to him and firmly tell him no and then reiterate that he can chew on the toy or bone that you gave him instead.
ETA: And the second question- totally normal and disturbing. My neutered male dog and my unneutered female dog have had.... relations. But she's neutered now, too, so he seems much less interested in her.

Re: 2 questions
I have a pitbull that will often grab things and not let them go for me. He has never been aggrassive, but has growled at me when I've tried to take things away. I backed away and didn't show him who was boss. When DH is home he will drop it for him and clearly DH is the Alpha in my home. I on the other hand became an equal since I never got in his face or jumped on him as others have suggested. The problem was when DH wasn't home. he would grab something and before he put a hole in it I would grab a treat because he would choose the treat over my nice new shirt. Obviously not the thing to do as I trained my dog to grab things and he would get a treat. We finally reached out to a trainer and he suggested to get a spray bottle and spray him(with steady stream not mist) and make a loud sound. We choose "Bahhhhhh" This has worked for us with all negative behaviors. He was getting sprayed quite often, but learned rather quickly. Now when he goes to do something bad he stops as soon as we pick up the spray bottle. We have also found just making the sound works. Good Luck!!
