Spinoff about sick kids (already)
I am sort of a germaphobe in terms of disinfecting my kids hands immediately after being in a store, at the playground, etc (with anti-bact hand wipes) and then washing them right when we get home. Then they have to change their clothes too, since those clothes could be germy. I am not really a germaphobe within our home though.
But it totally grosses me out that the kids do not wash their hands before they eat at school. Or even use anti-bacterial liquid or wipes.
DD just started Kindergarten and I asked if they wash or use wipes/liquid before lunch or before snack, and she says no, never. Just wash after they go to the bathroom.
Now, I know it's not possible, time-wise to wash 20 kids' hands 2x a day for snack/lunch...but how about a hand sanitizer pump they can squirt into their own hands?
Can I send a hand-sanitizer in DD's school bag for her to use before snack & lunch? I don't want to be "that mom" but it is really a way to prevent the spread of illness.

Re: Spinoff about sick kids (already)
Last year in Pre-k the kids were NOT told to wash their hands , and the kids were sick ALL the time. Even the teachers were out sick all the time. I attached a hand sanitizer to my DD's backpack and instructed her to use it before eating snack. I think it's disgusting they don't make the kids wash their hands! Especially at a pre-school/childcare facility.
Fast forward to this year for K, I attached the hand sanitizer to her lunch box to use before lunch. She told me that the teacher squirts everyone with sanitizer right before snack. So happy about that!
I would def. send in the hand sanitizer!

I send in a flat pack of Wet Ones Anti-bacterial wipes in their lunch boxes. They wipe at the very least before snack. And if they bring lunch they wipe before that too. Its the best I can do. I hate the gel.

Re: Spinoff about sick kids (already)
In my DS's pre-k, they took the kids to the bathroom to wash hands before snack. What that really meant is, the kids all washed (with varying degrees of success, I'm sure) in the bathroom, touched the faucets and whatever else in the bathroom after washing, and then trooped back to the classroom in pairs, HOLDING HANDS. Suffice it to say the whole class was constantly sick.
In kindergarten, the teacher had everyone purell before snack and lunch. The kids were hardly sick all year!
I will be giving my 3.5 yo DD either a Wet Ones antibacterial wipe or a small Purell to use before snack.

This is a good idea! DS said that they wash hands before snack and use hand sanitizer and then wash hands again before lunch (they have recess first so I guess they make them wash right after). He did say they dont wash after they eat. I like the idea of sending in the antibacterial wipes, esp now that I knoe he doesn't wash after lunch. I work in a pre-K class and the teachers also use hand sanitizer on there hands before snack.

This is exactly what I do. And I'm not a fan of hand sanitizer... much rather they wash their hands with a wipe

I am sending DS in with a Sani Kids hand wipe in his lunch box. Even if he is exposed all day long to germs, a little bit of prevention is better than nothing.

After reading this I sent in the wipes today. You are right...the hands probably get a better "wash" from the wipe than just the gel.

Re: Spinoff about sick kids (already)
I have sent in the gel all of last year and this year but I like the idea of the wipes better. Thanks for the idea!
