My DD and DS are a week apart. My DS is going to 1 and my DD is going to be 5. I was thinking of having a joint party, do you think thats tacky?

Our kids' birthdays are a day apart. We had a joint 1st and 3rd birthday this year. We will have a joint party next year and probably the year after.

Once DS#1 is in elementary school, I will probably have a separate one for his classmates.

I had a double birthday party for my DS and DD when they were 4 and 2. Last year was so crazy busy for us with my brother's wedding that it was just easier to do it that way. I went back to separate parties for this year. I think it is fine either way. You do what works for your family.

I don't think it's tacky at all. My sister and I are two years apart and we did a lot of joint parties during the years. I'm sure we had parties together when we were babies but I only remember the later ones and we always had a blast!

My girls are 23 month apart so we did a joint party this year since we know several people who did it and we had ours between the two girls birthdays. DD#2 invited her whole class (10 kids) and DD#1 invited the girls in her class (10 kids) and then we invited about 10 from outside of school that are family friends with kids my girls' age. It was great. For the families that are family friends they got invite to the both girls party - but if we did 2 parties they would have all been invited to both. Then DD#2 sent invites out saying it was her party, and for DD#1 her invites just listed her party. It seems like a pretty common thing these days. I know a lot of people who did this - or met a lot who have done this. Honestly it also saves some money. It was cheaper than throwing 2 parties as well.

Good to know everyone had joint birthday party's. My DS birthdays are only 14 days apart. I wasn't sure if I should have a big 1st birthday party and then a smaller party a few weeks later. I think I will just do one big joint party. It is cheaper and easier that way. Plus, the kids are so little, they don't know the difference.
I figured once my older DS is in kindergarten or first grade, I will start having friend birthday parties for him.

dh thinks 2 separate parties, keeps their own identities.

I kinda like 2 separate parties, but if I combined them(good reasons to - save money if they are bigger parties) I'd want them each to have their own cake to blow out their candles.... I saw an old picture recently and it was from a joint bday party - dh's brother and dh's cousin.... it listed the cousins name with age under it, "+" brothers name with age under it......
