Dutch Oven Subsitute
I've used a pot in a pot and last time I used a pyrex bowl on top of a pot of boiling water.

You can usually use any regular heavy pot. I use my stainless steel 5.5 qt pot usually.

Yes, a large pot should work. Just make sure it's oven safe, because many recipes that call for a Dutch oven require you to start them on the stovetop and then transfer them to the oven.

This is what I do sometimes. Just as PP said, if the recipe calls for moving it to the oven, make sure your pot is oven safe.
