FTWM WHO EBF

I'll be going back to work full time November 5th Chat Icon so I don't freak out about the new routine I'll be going in Friday and next Friday.
DD is 12 weeks. I'll bf her or dh will give her a bottle no later than 8pm.I put her in her crib between 8:30pm-9pm. Depending on the night she will wake up between 4am-630am.

What's your routine like? Do you pump at home before you leave for work? How often do you pump at work? How many ounces?

Sorry for all the questions. FTM here

TIA

Re: FTWM WHO EBF

Let me start out by saying that I my girls couldn't BF, but I have been pumping for 13 months.
Last year, when I first went back to work. I pumped on my way to work, 2 times at work and on the drive home. I am also trying to keep up with twins.
As for ounces, that will vary for every woman.

I nursed DS before work, then pumped 3 times at work. As the months went on and DS woke up later in the morning, I would get up earlier and pump before he woke up and at night after he went to bed. You will find your routine once you get back to work. It's a little hectic at first, but things will start to fall into place. Good luck!

For those of you who nursed when your lo would wake up earlier than wanted say before 6am did you let them go back asleep and wake them when you needed to?

Re: FTWM WHO EBF

i did let DS go back to sleep and then if there was enough time I would go back to sleep myself. otherwise, I would get myself ready and then get him up when the time was right to get ready and leave.

Re: FTWM WHO EBF

When I was a ftwm, my schedule was sort of like this:
6:30- ds had a bottle of breastmilk given to him while i pumped, or sometimes i breastfed him and pumped.
9:00am- pumped
12:00pm- pumped
3:00- pumped
6:00- pumped or breastfed if i was with ds
8:30- nursed ds

I usually pumped anywhere from 25 oz to 32 ounces in a day.

Re: FTWM WHO EBF

I EBF and go back to work on the 19th. My plan is to feed DS in the morning, pump. Then pump every 4 hours while away from him. I assume that will be at least 2x during the day. I'll BF when we are together in the evening and pump again after the 10pm feeding.

Right now if I feed then pump I only get 2 or 3 oz. If I pump when DS hasn't eaten or didn't have a full feed I can get 4 to 5oz.

When I went back to work I BFed DD at daycare right before I left, pumped once in the middle of the day, and then BFed her again as soon as I got to daycare.

Re: FTWM WHO EBF

We are still bfing at 12 months, but not pumping anymore. When I pumped I pumped 2/3 times a day depending on schedule. I left him 3 5oz bottles a day and that is usually what I pumped. When he added lunch around 7months, he stopped drinking the whole 15 oz. I was home from 8 months-10 months become I'm a teacher. When I returned this August, he refused pumped breast milk, so we did rice milk, then cows milk at 11 months. He's a big boy and always has been, so peds were never concerned with weight gain. Now he breastfeeds after work, evenings, and weekends, but drinks cows milk or water during day only.

My advice: Plan your pumping sessions, I would literally write the times in my planner and record how many ounces. It made me feel more in control. I found that I pumped the same amount regardless, but amounts varied throughout the day. Also, purchase extra parts to store at work. I had a few minor breakdowns when I got to work missing parts. Finally, invest in an excellent hands free pumping bra. I actually got a lot of work done during my pumping sessions.

Truly it seemed so daunting, but it worked itself out just fine, and I'm glad I've been able to provide him with breast milk, while working full time for over 12 months.

i pump on teh way to work, and again at lunch. I feed him in the am when he wakes up usually around 5:30 am. I pick him up at 4:30 and when he wakes up after we get home, i will nurse, then he gest a bottle at 7 pm and i pump at about 730-8. Then it is bed for both of us. I usually pump about 20+ ounces adn he takes 3 6-ounce bottles at day care. good luck.

I would feed DS around 5 am, then get up and ready for work. I would only pump once during my lunch hour, then feed him right when I got home, around 4. I tried to pump at night as well, but didn't have enough of a supply to make it worth the effort. As long as I nursed him before and after work, the 1x a day was enough to make bottles for during the day.
