doctor's office contingency plans
My doctor's office was open Monday but they lost power soon after. They have been pretty much incommunicado with my friends who have had appointments this week. They showed up to a dark office two days in a row.
As I posted yesterday, I had to track my doctor down in the OR during a surgery to assess an emergency. What are some of your doctors doing who are without power? I have an appointment this Tuesday and I wouldn't be surprised if they don't have power by then!

doctor's office contingency plans
Its crazy!! I actually got lucky because my friends aunt works at my doctors office so I was able to text her to see if they had power.. But she told me that they have no power but the doctor was coming in anyway to see his patients just to do a quick check up and check the heartbeat but I have to come back for bloodwork since they needed information that was in the computer. They have no idea when the power will be back on so will call me when they have it to come back. They are located in Great Neck which seems to be pretty powerless just from driving through it today. It seems though no other patients went to the office even if they had an appt so its going to be hard to get through to the offices if they lost power :(

that's great your doctor was there and you got checked. i know my doctor is out and about, based on the fact that he had his regular hours in the hospital yesterday. i assume all their records/schedules are computer based so they couldnt even call people to cancel?

Yep they couldnt even check my urine or anything. .Just weighed me and blood pressure and the doppler.. that was it really it but I was def glad I went in since I got to hear the heartbeat and know that everything was ok... I do have to go back though when they get power for the bloodwork.. I just feel bad because Im sure there are patients freaking out that they cant get through to anyone at the office and the staff was panicking a little because they have EVERYTHING on the computer so couldnt even call people to tell them. Honestly I prob wouldnt have went in if I didnt know the situation.. its really bad and no one knows when power will be up and running so has to be scary for the doc office who have so many patients.

Re: doctor's office contingency plans
My practice is without power in Manhattan and they've been really good about updating their website with clear info on which numbers to call in the event of an emergency, etc. To handle the influx of non emergency calls, they have their billing service fielding inquiries about existing appontments so as not to distract from the emergencies. They will have weekend hours to catch up on appts, assuming power has been restored as anticipated, and have made arrangements for delivery at other hospitals since NYU was evacuated. If power is not restored, they've made arrangements to have a neighboring practice handle appointments for those in need. I was in a bit of a panic yesterday since I'm almost 39 weeks, but I got a call back from a doc at 7am this morning in response to an email I sent late last night and got the sense that things are under control and there are sufficient contingencies in place.

Re: doctor's office contingency plans
My appt was cancelled earlier this week, they called up and rescheduled it for today. I was told any doubt or problems, go to the hospital for issues.
ETA: i'm also 39 weeks with high bp but I believe they are doing the same for everyone in the practice.

doctor's office contingency plans
I still can't get in touch with my doctor. I had an appointment on Wednesday and I never heard from anyone and when I call it still just rings and rings. They're on the upper east side and I'm out on LI so it's not like I can exactly swing by. The imaging center where I go every 4 weeks did call me and we rescheduled for next week but the doctors there are more there for my growth issue stuff and they're reluctant to answer my other questions. I'm going to give it until next Wednesday when I have my other appointment and see what they say there or if they have heard anything from my doctor.

doctor's office contingency plans
My doctor's office has an answering service, however when you leave a message the doctor's office doesn't call you back. I have my first appt in 2 weeks and I wanted to know if I could come in today since DH now won't be able to take time off from work. They told my mom (she was in the office today so she asked since no one had gotten back to my calls or emails) that they only do sono's on Thursday's. I have my appt 2 Fridays from now and they told me I'll have a sono so that's CRAP!
I am NOT happy with this situation. I know that their phones aren't working or their computers might be down but they should have some type of back up. Return calls from somewhere else? Use computers elsewhere and return emails? I can't just show up there! I can't waste my gas!
