Does your dog bark?

We have had our dog since he was 2. He's a big dog too. He can bark just rarely does. When he does bark we call it the big boy bark and get really excited so he knows he is doing a good thing. But nope he will bark maybe 2x a month. I feel bad bc sometimes I forget him outside and usually he is sitting at the door whining which we can't hear when we are doing 9m other things. He doesn't get speak. We have even tried barking at him but nope. I guess I shouldn't complain bc when I hear annoying barking dogs I'm like can't the dog shut up. Lol.

I would kill to be in your shoes. I have two terriers and I feel like they are ALWAYS barking.

My 7 year old Golden Retriever is the same way, she NEVER barks. She barked once in the backyard as I was chasing her, but that was it. She actually barked in her sleep last night so I know she CAN do it.

My dog barks, not a lot but a decent amount. He usually barks when he sees another dog outside or sees something in the backyard and wants to protect us.
He barks a lot more since I've gotten pregnant. He's trying to protect me.

Re: Does your dog bark?

Ozzie is part Beagle so he does bark sometimes - it's actually pretty much a guard dog bark and that's it. No uncontrollable barking which is great. My ILs Wheaten barks uncontrollably and it is AWFUL! Can't have a conversation, can't have a meal, can't leave a room without her interrupting and barking.

Growing up I had a Golden Retriever and a Portuguese Water Dog - neither barked, ever. The Golden I swear in his 14 years I never once heard his voice. The PWD started barking very rarely later in her life.

Having experienced all different types, I think my favorite is really the dogs that don't bark. It's nice and calm and quiet, and you know your dog isn't bugging anyone!

Re: Does your dog bark?

Our dogs only bark when they think something is amiss. It's ideal because we automatically know that something is wrong (or the guy who rents our garage just opened the garage door Chat Icon) and we know they aren't bothering anyone. Our pit will bark but not exactly "on command." Sometimes I'll just catch her eye and growl at her and she goes nuts and growls and barks and we roll around and play for awhile. But once I tell her enough, no more, she stops. She's a very good dog!

We actually fostered a beagle for a few months and he barked a total of ONE time about 3 months after we had taken him in. I nearly jumped out of my skin he surprised me so much! Chat Icon

Anyway, be grateful that you don't have a barker! We had gotten a noise complaint even though I'm fairly certain it was our neighbor's dog barking! Chat Icon

Re: Does your dog bark?

I have a Jack Russell terrier and they are known to bark their heads off but not mine, instead he whines NON STOP for everything. I would rather the barking I think.

Only when he hears someone at the door/doorbell or if he's totally hyped up and wants to play (very rare).
