Re: Really need your help girls
I do think with home health aide you need to be able to lift the patient if they fall in the shower or while moving, so that might not be good. my aunt had health aides for the last few years of her life and it was very physical for them.

Re: Really need your help girls
There are some great suggestions here.
How about a phone bank somewhere? Or a receptionist?
Good luck

Re: Really need your help girls
My first thought was Home Healthcare Work. My Grandmother was pretty capable of taking care of herself, but we had someone to come in and do light housekeeping and cooking for her. It was basically someone just to keep an eye on her and made sure she turned the stove off and took her medication.
My other thoughts were,
Hotel/Motel Desk Clerk or Reservationist. Most of the people we hired this year were in their 50's and had no experience.
Or something in the school district. Monitor, crossing guard or something like that.
I'm sorry she has to go through all of this.

What about working for a before and after school program. Its school age children, so no lifting required. I think almost all towns have these now. Best of luck to your mom!

Jenn,
Sending some hugs for you and your Mom
I wish I had some magical answer and a job for your Mom. It must be terrifying to have to rejoin the workforce after so many years. I like the suggestion of trying for a job in a salon. Limited writing, making appointments and the cash drawer/credit card machines aren't too rough.
Or is that even too much?
When I used to work at JFK - there were many companies hiring people. Can she wipe mirrors and maybe mop a floor or would that hurt her hands?

Re: Really need your help girls
I was going to suggest a teacher's aide for a local school but you said she tried that. Has she tried more than one district? Is she willing to speak to a job coach that specializes in placing disabled individuals?

Re: Really need your help girls
what about a companion to an elderly person- I saw a sign in my building asking for one
you live near Long beach right?
what about her selling the house? or renting out the whole thing
maybe a fresh start would do her some good
is the mortgage payment really big? will she be able to cover all of the bills on minium wage?

Re: Really need your help girls
What about working at a hair salon? Either a receptionist, a shampooist or someone who sweeps the hair, folds towels etc.
Good luck to you and your mom. Big !!!!

50's is not old and certainly not elderly. She is disabled though?
yeah, 2 weeks before my dad left she fell down the stairs...on her head...she's lucky to be alive
OH my..is she technically disabled? Meaning that she is collecting social security disability?
We're looking into it, but she probably can't because she didn't work to get credits. But we're looking into it.
I am a Social Security Disability attorney. I sent you FM.
