Kofinas Patients - Tell Me Which OB to see
Hi ladies. I am seeing Dr. Kofinas in Garden City. As you know, he only works with certain OBs. People seem to have strong feelings, pro and con, about all of them.
Can you share insight as to who to see, or who not to see?
Also, do you continue with Dr. Kofinas the entire pregnancy? How often?

I see Kofinas in Brooklyn so I can't help with OB's in your area but yes, he works with you your entire pregnancy. Usually every two to three weeks I believe.

I don't know who else he works with but I will tell you NOT to see Pillitteri.
I feel like they are trying to push me towards this one, but I hear more bad than good on him. No one seems to LOVE any of the obs he works with...

Why do you like him? What is his demeanor like?
He is the sweetest most kind OB/GYN with an incredible bedside manner. The entire staff he works with are wonderful IMO. I have been seeing him since before my DS was born and thanks to him Im alive (literally).
I have recommended him to several of my friends 2 of which are in the medical field and did extensive research on him as well and they feel the same way I do :)
Set up an appointment to go and meet with him...hes very clean cut, soft spoken and explains everything. Married with 4 of his own children and is super throuogh and warm.
Kofinas will basically see you throughout your entire pregnancy and Cafaro will follow alongside him and take his direction regarding delivery. Kofinas does not deliver at Winthrop bc it is a University Hospital however, many of his patients see Cafaro/Rosenberg and they refer alot of their thrombo patients to Kofinas...

I saw Dr. Pilliteri for my first (twin) pregnancy and I never wanted to see him again after my twins birth.
I went back to Kofinas when I found out I was pregnant with my 3rd and he tried to talk me back into seeing Pilliteri. I refused, told him my story and then he suggested University Plaza Cafarro/Rosenberg. I have been happy with them so far. The office is great, I never wait, if I call with a question they always get back to me. So far I like both doctors, am I over the moon? No but I like them alot. They are allowing me to attempt a VBAC after my twins. Right now Dr Kofinas does most of my monitoring etc but I assume as I get closer to my due date Dr. Caffaro will be more involved.

So funny you say this. I am not real pleased with the OB recommendation Kofinas gave me. It seemed to me that he did very little during my first and only appt. He was not impressive at all and did not provide the type of care I'm accustomed too. After reading your post, Im wondering if he was simply taking a back seat to Kofinas and that is why he did not seem overly involved or as thorough as I would have liked. I'm going to give him a few more chances but will switch if I get the same vibe from him going forward.
This brings me to a question, will Kofinas outright refuse to work with a patient if you do not work with an OB he approves of?

yea I think this is the case and I think that is why dr Kofinas likes to work with him. It really doesn't bother me though it is dr Kofinas's job to keep me pregnant so his role is more important the first 2 tris. Dr pilliteri is andr who will chat with you and act like your "friend" but he did me wrong medically so now that aspect not that important to me. I figure as we get closer to my due date dr caffaro will be more involved (am I dialated etc). I will say that dr caffaro reviewed my file from my twin pregnancy with dr Kofinas and called me personally to discuss a few things after my first visit.
Yes dr Kofinas will refuse to work with certain obs. He told me if I wanted to use the ob I was working with at the time he wouldn't see me.

I have a friend that sees Miller, so it will be either him or Caffaro. Based on the reports here, leaning towards Cafaro.

Yes, Pillitteri trained w/ Kofinas. In fact Pillitteri was miffed that I saw a different High-risk doctor (female) and it was quite obvious to me and DH he had a real hard time taking direction from her. I had a horrid exp. w/ Pillitteri and would say if you can find another doctor that takes your insurance to go elsewhere. Good luck.

I saw Kofinas every 2 weeks, then as I got closer to my due date, every week.
Pillitteri was my OB, and I didn't have a problem with him. I waited a long time in the waiting room, but that didn't bother me.
I liked that fact that he trained with Kofinas, so he was familiar with my issues and course of treatment. He can be sarcastic sometimes, but that's my sense of humor too.

Cafaro delivered my first and I switched over to Miller this pregnancy. I find his bedside manner to be wonderful, very relaxing and thorough!
I dont think you can go wrong with either!

I would go with Miller or Cafaro. I liked both a lot. Of course, Kofinas makes all of the big calls leading up to the big day.

Miller is amazing...he is actually the OB./GYN that most lawyers use in their malpractice suits becuase he is so thorough. I enjoyed seeing him when he was in the practice with Cafaro and Rosenberg...Sadly, Miller left that practice and is down the hall with Lopresti (which I havent heard great things about)...
If you are guarenteed to see Miller every appointment and that he can deliever you (which I dont think they can promise bc he has a big following and it takes months in advance to get an appointment with him) then it would be a toss up between Miller and Cafaro.
I personally, stayed with Cafaro's office bc I can see Cafaro at everyone of my appointments. Andrea the sono tech is SO SWEET and I love her :)
A very close friend of mine just started seeing Kofinas and he was recommending Pilliteri (who I have heard horror stories about) and I told her to tell him that she wants to use Cafaro...she actually saw him today and told him and he said "thats fine" so I think he wont give you a problem.

Thank you Julie for the suggestion. I'm in Broolyn though and need an OB in Brooklyn that Kofinas will work with.
BTW ladies, I know that Kofinas works with you the entire pregnancy, but in the end, who makes the important decisions such as c-section/vaginal, induced or not, weekly checks of the cervix? Stress tests? I'm PRAYING it's Kofinas as my second appt with my current OB was more of the same :SIGH:!!

I just wanted to pop on to add I will be seeing Dr.Miler. I saw Dr.Pilliterri in previous pregnancies and had a miserable experience.
