Dumb question - Fashion scarves

My MIL got me a beautiful V neck sweater in blue and a scarf that I think is for fashion, not really for cold weather. How do I know and how are you supposed to wear it?? What kinds of sweaters/tops do you wear a scarf with? How do you wear the scarf itself? In a knot or like Harry Potter? TIA

Certainly not dumb at all. First , this scarf is not for this sweater. You can use it with a sweater that has the same colors. Gray and yellow do not go with this v-neck bright blue (I cannot be sure of the shade of blue due to monitor color differential). You can use this scarf to wrap around your neck and then just simply hang down on either side of your neck. As far as this sweater, I have found recently people using silky scarves (6' long) and hold it together with a stylish cocktail ring. Just pull the ends of the scarf through the ring. In the case of the v-neck, have the ring placed where the v begins. Another trick is to use the very long scarf simply tied around your neck in a large floppy bow. This is especially attractive if you have a long neck.
