Re-post: maternity/FMLA for NYC DOE
I've been getting conflicting info about this and hope someone has been in the same situation and can clarify for me....
I'm due June 24. If I have maternity for 6-8 weeks that would occur during our time off in the summer. If I wanted to extend and take the 12 weeks for FMLA would that be added on to my 8 weeks maternity or could I start the 12 weeks when we go back in September?
Also, can we use borrowed time to cover the days used for FMLA?

Im pretty sure your week 1 of fmla starts the first day of school in september.
Had ds may 30. Used only 4 weeks of fmla (since it starts day one of maternity leave) and the remaining 8 weeks started the first day of school in september
This only works like this over the summer bc we are not working, doesnt apply or skip over vacation times during school yr

Re: Re-post: maternity/FMLA for NYC DOE
Some are saying its 12 weeks total from day of delivery so I'd have only another 2-4 weeks in September, but I'd really like to do the additional 12.

I think they are wrong. You arent working over the summer so it doesnt count that time . Sign up for the workshop!!!
I had ds in 2010 and fmla stopped over summer and restarted
Pg now and dc due in may hoping to do the same thing i did with ds unless i have to have baby earlier than expected

I was told that the 12 weeks started from the delivery date and that you only had payroll options (could use/borrow sick days) for the first 6-8 weeks, depending on the type of delivery.

You will be able to use the remaining FMLA in September, but you will not be able to use your CAR or borrowed days because you are passed the 6/8 weeks after delivery.

email [email protected] with your due date - She will sent you up for a workshop that is closer to your due date. Make sure you send them your information from a NON DOE email address.
I just went to the workshop today. The person who runs it, who happens to be my union rep, is very knowledgeable.

I had my dd june 18. I took off a week before i had her. Maternity leave runs from the day you give birth but fmla will start in september bc there is no work in the summer. Perfect timing on ur pregnancy

Re: Re-post: maternity/FMLA for NYC DOE
Just go to the workshop I got really confused talking to my payroll rep. I'm due July and was told my 6 weeks takes me up to the first day back and then I will have 6 weeks left of fmla to cover me up to almost the end of oct
