Dairy Free
Ok... So after my first physical in about 4 yrs I weighed a little more than I thought. I will say I was wearing a sweatshirt and boots. Lol. I really didn't know I'd be weighed bc it was my first doc appt and I thought they'd just give me a script for blood work then do my physical. I am healthy and somewhat active. I used to be a lot more, but not as much time and not easy Anyway... I've been hearing from celebrities and others that once they take away dairy it made a difference. Anyone try it? Any diet tips? Not looking to loose a ton of weight, but looking to be healthier and more active. Especially before vaca next month. I'd like to look bathingsuit ready!
Thanks!

Re: Dairy Free
Try whole 30, followed by the paleo lifestyle.
For me, I could tell that elimination of grains and gluten made a huge difference! I have much more energy now.
Here's my opinion about dairy. Dairy in moderation is good for you if it is raw. Pastuerized and homogenized milk is not so great for you. And especially if it is low fat.

Re: Dairy Free
I've been vegan for about a year and a half and I feel great. The best way I describe it is that I feel clean and not "clogged" if that makes sense.
There are great alternatives to dairy like almond milk, nature's balance "butter" (which is all natural and available in soy free), and Daiya cheese-that stuff is amazing and also all natural!
You will definitely lose weight and feel better if you cut out dairy, good luck!

Re: Dairy Free
I actually find that eating yoghurt several times a week helps my stomach out tremendously ( likely due to the probiotics) I'm a vegetarian and I eat a largely plant based diet. Tons of fruits and veggies, legumes, whole grains ( especially quinoa) , some organic , non gmo soy products, nuts, seeds, egg whites, and some cheese as a condiment . This diet has worked well for me. I am slim and in good health. I never get sick:: knock wood::. My mom lost 30 lbs following this diet ( combined with exercise). It is very similar to the anti inflammatory diet put forth by Dr. Andrew Weil. If you think that you might be having a reaction to dairy, eliminate it from your diet and see how you feel. Some people have sub clinical gluten sensitivities. You could also eliminate that and see if you feel better. ETA: Avoid any sort of white flour or added sugar. Added sugar meaning sugar that is NOT naturally occurring like that found in fruits and vegetables). Be wary of high fructose corn syrup and other processed ingredients. Avoid processed food as much as possible.

Just counting calories and exercising more has me feeling great and losing. I use myfitnesspal to monitor my intake and calories burned from workouts. Some of the foods we eat everyday just got stored as fat. Even what you thought was healthier for you inst because of X ingredeiets and what not.

Dairy Free
Taking away dairy made a huge difference for me. I was vegan and could eat all day an never gain a pound. I am now vegetarian and the dairy makes it a lot harder for me to lose weight and I am up ten pounds. I go through spurts now where I have it or not and every time I take out the dairy I quickly go back to down.

Re: Dairy Free
I think that every case is difference. However, I think that entirely eliminating one particular substance, unless there is some medical reason you cannot have it, does not always have the best results.
Unless you're planning to never incorporate it again, you'd probably quickly put weight back on the moment you start eating it again. I'm sure eating less of certain dairy products would help, but I'm just not a fan of complete elimination.
I've just never personally found complete elimination diets to work for me because I don't feel right, I crave the food I'm missing, and the weight comes right back once I eat it.

I feel the same way.
Actually, I found the opposite was true with me and dairy. Once I started incoporating more dairy into my diet (in the form of greek yogurt and fat free milk), I lost more weight.

Thanks! That's great advise. I'll go and get Greek yogurt and the soy milk too. I really need to just steer clear of carbs or too much. I do exercise. Not nearly as much. I used to though. Especially since I started working from home. My goal is only 5 pds and maintain. I really need to work on stomach muscles and thighs too.

Re: Dairy Free
I have to say that I'm not completely dairy free, though I do want to eliminate it. it is hard, as it's in so many things.
I read this nutritionist's blog sometimes and she is a huge advocate of dairy free.
Here is what she had to say about dairy in a recent post. I think it's worth a read

This is as much dairy as I have too, which the occassion of ice cream. I notice a huge difference when I eat it. I will have greek yogurt but not often and when I do, my stomach bloats up so much. I drink Almond milk, we actually all do. I keep a pint of milk in the house to make mac and cheese for the kids.
I initially went dairy free completely because I was BF DD#1. I did that for 7 months and just got used to not eating it as much. I also try and cut out gluten. If I make pasta it is always gluten free (wegmans brand is great).

Re: Dairy Free
I realized dairy was making my blood sugar go up (I am type 1 diabetic)
so I gave up dairy, I am vegan except for an occassional piece of fish in a resturant
I feel so much better- I aslo gluten free
I basically eat whole foods, fruits and veggies, nuts and seeds
I am never starving -
my typical day
breakfast- tea with apple cider vinegar (green or white)
8 oz of H2o with a "green" powder and chia seeds (keeps you full and keeps you moving )
then a huge salad for lunch with an oil free dressing- avacado, beets, all my fav things and a piece of fruit
afternoon snack- nuts or more fruit
dinner- more veggies- spaghetti squash with sauce, eggplant- all the veggies I can eat
then I bake an apple with cinnomon
I am losing weight- but this is life style change- I am working with a wellness doctor who is always tweaking my diet

Can you tell me more about this green powder? Also, if you don't use oil in your salad how do you replace it? My DH wants to reduce the oil in his diet. Thanks !

Re: Dairy Free
it's called sun is shining
and there are tons of salad dressings with oil- they are double the price generally- or you can make your own with balasmic vinegar
Since its introduction in the year 2000, Sun Is Shining has become one of the most well-respected and best-selling Alkaline Green Powdered Superfood products in the world.
Sun Is Shining boasts an incredible array of nutrient-dense, mineral-rich superfoods including powdered vegetables, algae, and aquatic vegetables, as well as a highly-advanced probiotic (friendly bacteria) formula. This product was developed exclusively for Sunfood by one of the world's leading superfood authorities, Dr. Jameth Sheridan (N.D.). Sun Is Shining has been formulated to provide you and your family with the vitamins, minerals, enzymes, probiotics, polysaccharides, and protein required to build strong bones, healthy muscles, better digestion, and much needed alkalinity in a world where we are exposed to an abnormal amount of toxins.
Sun Is Shining is an entirely raw, vegan, and gluten-free product. It has been formulated with a unique understanding of lifeforce energy, enzymes, raw foods, Mother Nature and environmentally-sound science, with a reverence for all life.
What Is In Sun Is Shining? Sun Is Shining contains 100% raw, organic and wildcrafted superfoods, the best probiotic formulation ever put into a superfood formula, and a full digestive enzyme complex. Sun Is Shining comes to you as a neutral-tasting, whole-food, green powder. It is designed to be added smoothly to your current diet. This product contains no fillers. It is packaged in an environmentally-friendly amber glass bottle with a metal lid and oxygen absorber for optimum nutrient preservation. It does not require refrigeration even after it is opened (this makes it an ideal travel companion), although we do recommend keeping Sun Is Shining in a cool dry refrigerator or cabinet if you have one. Storage in a cool, dark place will extend the products potency.
The latest version of Sun is Shining has twice the probiotics as before, making for a more powerful product with enhanced nutrient assimilation. The additional probiotics increase the absorption of the natural vitamins and minerals present in the superfoods. Additionally, improved growing and low-temperature food drying and powdering processes have resulted in the whole leaf grasses being even more nutritious and finely ground, thus delivering superior bio-availability of nutrients (easier to digest and assimilate) while still maintaining the beneficial fiber.
Ingredients (100% RAW, vegan, and organic/wild superfoods): * Land Vegetables: whole Leaf barley grass, whole leaf wheat grass, nettle leaf, horsetail, alfalfa leaf juice, dandelion leaf juice, kamut grass juice, barley grass juice, oat grass juice, broccoli juice, kale juice, spinach juice, parsley juice, burdock root, nopal cactus, ginger, amla berry.
