Sitting in the waiting room of the RE
Anyone else feel a tad uncomfortable? There were like 40 women (+2men) in one waiting room and no one was making eye contact at all. Is it normally this awkward or is it me just being a newbie? I was terrified I would see a patient or friend there

Re: Sitting in the waiting room of the RE
I think like anything else, it is what you make of it. If you go in feeling awkward you could more or less invent your surroundings. Like Gina said, hopefully you aren't on this road long enough to start recognizing the same people, knowing the staff like old friends, etc. 40 people in a waiting room is a lot, wow!!!

Sitting in the waiting room of the RE
in the beginning its a bit awkward but then you realize that all the ppl there are going thru something similar as you are so its a bit comforting knowing this is not just happening to you.

Re: Sitting in the waiting room of the RE
Yea, I kinda feel the same way even 5 mos later. I just always assumed its because we are all there for the same thing; all nervous, or anxious, or upset we have to be there in the first place. For me, I was embarrassed sitting there in the beginning because I felt broken. I also feel like no one wants to make the first move and strike up a conversation with a stranger lol

Sitting in the waiting room of the RE
It was totally awkward in the beginning.. more of a feeling of "what am I doing here" but now, like a PP said, I see the same girls over and over... we obviously share a cycle. None of us have spoke, but we always smile at each other. You may never know the other people in the waiting room, but your all in it together.
Hope your stay is short!

Re: Sitting in the waiting room of the RE
That is how it is when you are at a big office. Both RMA and Cornell were like that. And so quiet you could hear a pin drop. And watch out if someone is going for #2, and they bring #1 with them....darts I say darts coming out of eye balls....LOL.... maybe fire too. Bring a book with you and don't worry about anyone else. Besides it needs to be quiet so you can hear your name called out.

Re: Sitting in the waiting room of the RE
When I went for my first IUI with RSofNY at their Mineola office, DH and I saw this couple who are customers of ours.
The guys did a little Nod. And since then, my DH always tells me when they come into the shop bc he feels awkward and wants to be like, so how's it goin? lol
it can be a little weird. It's like one big elevator. But I noticed at the Stonybrook office, people are more talkative.

Just wanted to say that at RMA they ask that you do not bring any children to the office, due to the sensitive nature of why people are there. I went to RMA for a year and never saw a child there. I was very comfortable in that office and never felt awkward or uncomfortable.

Yes, this happened yesterday!! The place was packed with no seats and someone brings in a baby and has it out, playing with it- and it was a new born so IDK why they could have been there??? I have a DS so I know if you don't have a sitter, you have no choice but I saw the uncomfortable eyes!! It was def totally silent and no one looked up at eachother. I think I may attempt to look around next week lol

The person with the newborn could have been visiting the dr to show them the baby... Or some people try again right away for various reasons. As far as bringing babies, I never had a big issue with it since I understand people don't have a choice but one time this person came with her baby and I guess a sister or a friend (I guess they could have also been a couple) anyway they were sitting in the waiting room and were taking to the baby SO loud!!!! I think I even posted about it at the time bc I found it a little upsetting since this was soon after one of my losses and was in a terrible mood. They were making so much noise (the adults mainly, not the baby) and then looking around at the other people waiting to see who was looking at them. It's almost like they were trying to get people's attention. Aside from that I have no issues.. But to this day I remember those people and how bad it made me feel on that particular day, really just because how they behaved. You are at an RE waiting room, not your living room. I think they were also encouraging the kid (a 2yr old) to walk around and say hi to people. It was a bit much and "in your face".

Re: Sitting in the waiting room of the RE
It totally can be uncomfortable!!! I know a lot of the women at my RE office get a little weirded out if you make eye contact with them. It was also really weird for me when I was sitting in my RE office and one of my co-workers came over to chat. She came off so comfortable being there and mentioned that she had seen other coworkers there in the past.

I never really felt uncomfortable! The eye contact I crazy when you think about it! I just stare at the wall art or when they call you and you have to wait in another waiting area I just look out the window. None of the patients smile they just look straight. It's weird you do the same behaviors as them

My sentiments exactly. I go at the crack of dawn. Once in a while someone brings their kid in but otherwise if it wasn't for the TV you could hear crickets. As far as being uncomfortable, I think the first couple of times I was a little. It becomes old hat unfortunately after a while. I always hope I don't know anyone but other than that I am usually in a daze at 645am lol
