Actually, I think there is a $5k cap on the amount that is tax deductible so you can potentially save up to $2500 or so/year.

Seriously. No one seemed to mention that if your income is above a certain bracket what little you can get back starts to phase out. We get $0.00 from daycare.

Re: another daycare question...$$$
I pay around 25K for a nanny and 8k for preschool for a 2 year old. Add another 6k for preschool for #2 this fall.

Re: another daycare question...$$$
Around 13k full time. My mom watches her in the summer so that's the only time of year she doesn't go full time.
I don't even know how I'm going to afford 2. Daycare cost is crazy. Makes me sometimes want to be one and done.

Re: another daycare question...$$$
Not daycare but Nanny in Bayside. $26 grand a year. I look forward to when DS is in nursery school but then we are likely to keep our nanny for DC2 which should hopefully coincide.
If anyone knows of a money tree, please let me know!

No one seemed to mention that all that you pay for daycare because you ladies work is TAX DEDUCTIBLE so you will get some of that money back. If you are a SAHM and want to send your child to pre school like I did because my son needed some extra help I was told it was not tax deductible.
I don't really think 500.00 from my 12,000.00 is anything to brag about. My daycare provider is in-home so we are not able to claim it on our taxes anyway. exactly!! I'm actually lucky if see $500 back as a tax deduction. You really get crap back considering to what you pay out. Ann456 was that a serious response?!?!

Re: another daycare question...$$$
This year is like a steal ~ $7k (for one kid, not including the cost of pre-k and after care for my DD).
Last year it was $27k (for 2 kids).

Really, again???
You really like to comment on these posts regarding the cost of daycare yet, you don't send your kids to daycare And obviously - you are making comments about things you don't fully know the facts to support.
I get $5k taken out of my salary pre-tax to put towards daycare. Yes, you can only use this pre-tax benefit if the childcare is for working purposes - not if there is a parent who is not working or just to send your child to preschool (which although beneficial is also optional - like you view daycare as).
But, what I pay for daycare is significanly more than $5k and significantly more than what I would pay to send my kids to preschool so I don't get what you are trying to compare here.
Yes - I choose to send my kids to daycare, yes I can afford it - but, I have the right to state/complain that it's expensive!!!

I get $600 as a deduction. DD goes part time and ts owr $10k. u ust opened a flexible spending account for this year but it's not much better. I estimate maybe $1k more. But if I didn't work we would be in a lower tax bracket so in all that deduction really doesn't go far. Not far enough to complain about being a SAHM and no being able to use it.

And trust me when I tell you. You get PEANUTS back compared to what you pay. This arguement makes very little sense

Yes, so what is your point? Chris was taken as a User name so I went with Ann -- nickname ... is your name really PreggowithTwins ?
Gosh, just trying to say that getting back something is better than getting back nothing. If you don't think your refund is a big deal then send it to me ... the one not working. I'm not saying you ladies are paying chump change but you do want a quality person/people caring for your child. If you want good care, then you have to pay. It must be tough, especially for those are single parents or ladies who have to work because there spouse's job does not provide benefits. I did explore child care centers and got prices, spoke to people two years ago. I am home with my children and in the end is a great thing. As long as DH and I can get by in a way we feel we need to and provide for our children having me home the right thing. I will never get this time back with them and will always be able to make more money when they get older. I got my degrees, worked and now spending time with my young children.

Ann you are such a rude person. Please stop posting on threads that don't apply to you. This question is about daycare and as we all know you sacrifice so you don't have to send your child to daycare, remember that gem from the other post you had no business posting on?
beat it.

Why are you people jumping down her throat? It appears she was trying to be HELPFUL. Many new parents aren't even aware childcare is tax deductible.

It isn't entirely tax deductible - just a small portion which is nice but, its reallyq

Sorry, I hit send accidentally. She has made comments on other daycare threads that make this one come across as rude. Yes, its a nice benefit but it doesn't substantially change the amount I pay each year.

Right, I saw. However, there is nothing at all snotty, snarky, rude, or anything of the sort in her response.

Really? her putting TAX DEDUCTIBLE in caps (which on the internet is YELLING) isn't rude? Did you see her other post on this thread or her many posts are other threads where she rips into mothers looking for help and guidance and advises them on their finances and how to live their lives? If you had seen those posts I doubt you would defend her so much.
