those who use similac sensitive come in?
DD is just over two weeks. about a week ago, we switched from Advance to Sensitive due to bad gas. She seemed so much better right away but she went from like 6-8 bowel movements per day to 1 per day if that. Now she has what seems like extreme pain and discomfort from having to poop Every bottle increases her discomfort until she finally poops.
Did your child experience this? Did it get better?

DS had issues with lactose and was on it but it didn't help him at all with gas. Gentlease worked better for him with the gas issues since the proteins are broken down more.

Re: those who use similac sensitive come in?
Ugh I am thinking we are going to need to switch again. She still has awful gas and is inconsolable! My son ended up on Alimentum but was never this uncomfortable. Calling the ped first thing in the AM. I cannot watch her being this uncomfortable :(

DD had the same issue... we switched from Advance to Sensitive and I also did a lot of bicycle kicks with her to help with movement.
I stuck to the Sensitive.

Re: those who use similac sensitive come in?
The issue with sensative is that it is a lactose free product, but still has whole proteins. Gentlease (which is a fab formula), still contains lactose (you want baby to continue to make the enzyme lactase) at a reduced level but the proteins are broken down - easier digestion. Its also a good in between product to assess if baby has a milk protein allergy. Symptoms: colic, blood in stool, mucous, wheezing, runny nose , pulling knees into chest. In which case you would need a completely hydrolyzed protein. I would not recommend allimentum b/c ther second ingredient is table sugar (like that of sensitive) and the enzyme that digest sucrose is usually flushed out b/c of the inflammation in the gut. I would go with the powder version of nutramigen b/c it has a probiotic that helps to heal the inflammation (the liquid one doesn't have this probiotic) Anyway..hope that helps..I swear by gent lease...it is a very different product than sensitive and a lot of moms don't know that

Re: those who use similac sensitive come in?
Thanks for posting this. We switched DD to sensitive and she wasn't pooping at all. I didn't know if it was from the formula switch or not. Ped told me to give her prune juice and water. So I have to do that once a day and she only goes once a day. Even if I skip the prune juice she won't go at all.
ETA: He did say after a few months on the sensitive to try to switch back to the advanced.

Re: those who use similac sensitive come in?
Do you use the powder or RTF? My DD had the same issue as a newborn ; dr tried to push Alimentum. We tried it and saw no difference. When we gave her the RTF though, it worked. She had no problems after that. It's more expensive but the only thing that worked.
Eta: to clarify, by RTF Mean the similac Sensitive RTF , not Alimentum

Re: those who use similac sensitive come in?
We switched to Similac Sensitive due to frequent loose bowel movements, so in our case it was a good thing that DD dropped down to 1/day. It never really helped with gas, but ped didn't think it was a formla issue, just more of her digestive system having to mature and work itself out. We used gas drops in almost every bottle until about 3.5 months. It was definitely frustrating in the beginning as far as always second guessing the formula, but for my DD, time is what really helped her digestive issues. Good luck!

Re: those who use similac sensitive come in?
Is she on RTF? My ped recommended to use RTF only up until 4 months because they said powder was harder to digest. I would switch to the RTF and see how that works out first.

Re: those who use similac sensitive come in?
Mine was on advanced and was sooo gassy and crying almost like colic, so i switched to gentle ease and it was like a new baby... but after 2 months she just would take the bottle out of the blue so i had similac sent. in the house and put it in the bottle and she has been drinking it ever since.... but the whole time on gentle ease and sentitive she would poop every 4th day! sometimes i would have to stimulate her with a qtip.... i would even give her 1oz prune juice and 1oz water every day to help her out... once she stated food around 4-5 months- i would give the happy bellis with probotics to help the poop issue.... she seem to get better!! and now thats shes on Milk and food at 14 months she poops almost every day... every kids different some poop after every meal some poop every couple days!! just dont let it go past 4....

Re: those who use similac sensitive come in?
DS had this same problem when we switched to Sensitive. I switched to Gentlease and it was much better for his gas and constipation!

Re: those who use similac sensitive come in?
Thank you all! Spoke with the ped who suggested either gentlease or alimentum. We had great success with DS on alimentum so I picked some up. Two bottles in, two bowel movements and she has been doing nothing but sleeping. I hope this makes a difference!
