Chocolate Covered Oreos
I'm looking to make chocolate covered oreos as favors. How long in advance can I make them? Also, if I want them to look like baseballs, what do you think is the best type of red icing to use for the seams on the baseball? I'm so not good at these things. Thanks!

Re: Chocolate Covered Oreos
You can make them a couple of days in advance- probably about a week. The chocolate keeps the cookie fresher than the packaging the cookies come in! I'd use red melting chocolate for the stitches- you can find it at Michael's. I'd even recommend picking up one of those squeeze bottles from Michael's as well. You can melt the chocolate right in the bottle and it just makes it easier to pipe it on. Otherwise, melt it in a microwave safe bowl (or double boiler if that's your preference). Once it's melted, put it in a ziplock bag and snip the tip to make a tiny opening. Voila- cheap-o pastry bag!

Re: Chocolate Covered Oreos
I love making chocolate covered oreos! I do it all the time but I have purchased several molds over the years. But I've had a candy molding hobby for long time.
If you wanted to go the mold route, check out Spinning Leaf. Plus it will have the grooves in the mold for the red stitching. I normally use a toothpick for the coloring when I use molds.

Those are really cool, but I don't think I'd get it in time if I ordered them. Thanks though!!
