BTDT - breast pumping help

It's been kind of a rocky start with breastfeeding (latching issues) - after my son losing a lot of weight, I decided to pump and bottle feed him the breast milk. His weight is back up and beyond his birth weight! He's 1 month old now.
However, I've run into a new problem. For the past few weeks, I have been able to pump almost 4 oz. Now, all of a sudden for the past two days I am only pumping 1.5 oz.
When I feed him, he usually takes 2.5 oz.
Has anyone else run into this problem? Any advice on how to increast my supply so I can make sure he gets enough.

Basically this is what i do. Ds doesnt like to eat frequently- adn when he eats more at a time he goes longer so i too am in this boat. I use the mothers milk tea- steel cut oats, ive tried the lactation cookies, adn i try to increase my water intake. If i feel that i am dehydrated or not taking in enough calories, ill use a gatorade or coconut water to help= seems to work. Good luck..

Maybe try replacing the membranes on your pump.

Make sure that you are using a hospital grade pump or Mandela they are strong enough to help with milk production. Pump every 4 hours and make sure to pump and additional few minutes after you stopped getting milk this will help with stimulating your supply .

Re: BTDT - breast pumping help

it is not that your supply is dropping..it's not...it is now regulating itself and only making what your baby needs...so if you are getting 1.5 oz after your lo has fed that is GREAT! when your milk first comes in it is all over the place waiting for cues on how much to make...then after a few weeks it starts to regulate....

so if you need more milk you have to trick your body into thinking it needs to produce more (supply and demand) you can pump more sessions use breast compressions...wait for the 2nd letdown before stopping the pump and eventually your body will make more..

if you still want to help...drink lots and lots and LOTS of water, oatmeal...take herbal supplement called fenugreek (4 pills 4 times a day is what i did)

your bod will change the amount depending on the time of day, what you ate that day how much water you drank, stress, etc etc...so dont worry if it changes...it is common to pump 2 oz (combined) in 1 session or 8 oz in another...and everything in between!

good luck!

What kind of pump are you using? I learned that the membranes on the freestyle need to be replaced once every month or so. I would also dip on supply when I didn't eat or drink enough during the day. The worst was once I got my period back. I would get 2 oz less per feeding the whole week. I would try and eat/drink more and replace membranes.

I'm in the exact same boat. When I started pumping, I would get about 4 - 5 oz per session. But, then at around 5 weeks, my supply dropped to about 2 - 3 oz per session. DD drinks 5.5 oz, so I've had to start making up the difference with formula.

Using a hospital grade pump like the symphony will help. Also change your valve membranes
