Self cleaning litter box?

I am pregnant with my first, and the room we have the litter box in currently is going to be the nursery, so we are going to have to put the litter box in the bathroom.

I am on top of cleaning it, but I am thinking of getting a self cleaning, since I've heard the litter they use doesn't have much of an odor at all.

Do any of them work really well? Any recs?

TY!

YESSSS!!!! There are many that do not work well (so don't be surprised if you get some comments here with bad experiences!) but we are currently using Scoopfree which gets the best reviews!! We have 4 cats and those automatic boxes work beautifully!! In fact, I just confirmed with my dh what the name of it is, and he even just commented that they are outstanding.

My cats have all adapted to them very well!! It cleans about 20 mins after it's used and you swap out the litter in it once a week - week and a half.. (you could extend it longer with one cat... we have many, though we also have multiple boxes)

TY! I am already having such anxiety about her adjusting to the baby so I want to try to introduce her new things slowly and before the baby comes and takes over her room!

We use the Scoopaway crystal litter (it's like blue crystals) and we get it at Target.

We weaned them off the regular boxes slowly... and actually still have one traditional box for them to use, but they seem to all really like the automatic ones. They have a choice and I noticed they choose to use that one over the traditional. It's good because it gets rid of the poo soon after they go. I refer to it as their 'toilet is flushing' Chat Icon

Good to know. I recently switched over to that litter and it's the best damn thing ever - so smell whatsoever! although I would love for the box to clean itself.Chat Icon

I think I will try it out. Did you get the privacy dome for them? I think I may get that, too..that's all she has ever known.

Yup! They have the privacy dome Chat Icon Good luck trying it out! Keep me updated on how it works for you, I would love to hear that a rec I gave worked out for someone!

Btw... check Petco's website, they have sales a lot and we got it discounted from there. They also have it on Amazon.

My dh said when we bought it with the deal that was available (from Petco's site) it was cheaper to get the box and cover separately rather than the deluxe.

Self cleaning litter box?

We have a litter robot. We got it after or 11th litter maid failed on us. while the company was decent on replacing them, the last one started smoking so we decided to switch. We have had the litter robot for 3 years now., We have the bubble one because our male cat is very tall. We had it in our bathroom in our apartment and it is now in the kitchen and we don't smell it. We use any clumping litter, and 8 gal trash bags. our is awesome. easy to clean and we go through a fraction of the litter we went through before. . it was expensive but worth it

Self cleaning litter box?

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this thread!

I have 2 cats and have been looking for an easier litter box as well.

My friend had an automatic litter box that she bought when she got pregnant and her cat refused to use it and started having accidents all over the house. The cat was a little older so my assumption is that maybe he wasn't a fan of the litter it used. Some cats can be very set in their ways!

I'm sure that is rare but I am worried since my cats are almost 5 and might not be happy with a change like that.

So I was looking into other options and found the Roll N' Clean litter box:

Here is the link to the litterbox on Petco's website

Has anyone ever used this before or heard anything? It got mostly good reviews online.

I like that we can use the same litter they are used to, and all you have to do is roll it around and empty it out. Plus its only $30 for a large one and we can't afford most of the fancy ones!!

Alyssa, that was the one we had many, many moons ago. It was decent but IIRC we still had to clean it just the same as the other styles. It was good to do a quick in between clean, but it still needs to be cleaned out. And I don't think it helped contain smell at all.

You can't just put in a new litter box and expect them to use it, you have to kind of ease them into it. Some suggest putting the new and old boxes near each other. We put some used litter from the old box into the new and our then 8 year old and 3 year old cats adapted just fine. We also did this when we added a box to the basement.
