Is this rude?!
This is why I'm always too paranoid to give stuff from like the target clearance sales.

Re: Is this rude?!
IMO I think it's ok to ask for a receipt because I'd rather the recipient get something they want than a double. I think it's ungreatful and rude to not say thank you.

i wouldnt mind if someone asked me, but i always try to include a gift receipt for that reason. the only time i dont give gift receipts is christmas bc its too crazy with all the gifts or if i order something online and there is no gift receipt to include.
but me personally, i would never ask someone that tho bc i would feel weird.

Rude and Tacky! With holidays and birthdays we always get doubles or triples of things. Do we need 3 piggy bank toys? No, but we give one to my parents to keep and donate one. It's not about the gift. It's the thought that someone took time out of their life to do that. If it were an expensive or specific gift maybe, but I tend to tape the gift receipt to the box anyway. For our shower we got 5, yes 5 copies of Good Night Moon. I would never call and ask for the receipt.

Very rude. I would have just re-gifted it. I did that with several toys DS received due to doubles or that it was a toy he did not like or would use.

I don't get why it would be rude. Her daughter has that gift. The mom wants to get her something else. Stores give such a hard time without a receipt and often if you don't have the receipt you don't get the current selling price. As for not saying thank you isn't that what thank you cards are for. My son received 3 cars at his birthday and someone who have us one of them actually said to return it and get something else. And these were not even the same car. I don't go to a lot of 1 year old birthday parties so I would not have an opportunity to regift. I also don't buy toys for my son through the year so what he gets for birthday and Christmas is it for the year. So yes I exchange duplicates.

Re: Is this rude?!
I think it's rude. Close friend or family sure I'd ask but some child from my DC class no way would I ever call and ask for a receipt.
My son has received duplicate gifts plenty of times with no receipt. I usually try and return it, if I can't it gets saved till Christmas and I give them to toys for tots.

Re: Is this rude?!
Yup... I think it's rude. Would never do it. Just last week we were at my IL's and their neighbor came over to see the boys and give a gift. The first one she opened we had and my 3 year old said... Just like in the basement. Lol Obviously she didn't hear him and proceeded to open it with the boys. No biggie. Just decided my IL's would keep it at their house when we visit. I wasn't going to say anything. I try and remember receipts, but usually when shopping at places like Target I have a ton of stuff I'm getting including the gift so I get forgetful with so much going on.

Re: Is this rude?!
It's not rude. It's practical: she wants to get her kid something they can use. Why force her to regift?
Why can't you just say where you got it? That's no effort.

I would have worded it better. She could have started with "Thank you so much for the gift!" and then gone on to say her daughter already has it.
I agree that stores are a PITA about returning things, but I would never feel comfortable asking someone for a receipt. I think people should include gift receipts with all gifts nowadays.

Re: Is this rude?!
Def poor taste IMO and most people's! The funny side note is her gift for my DC was a duplicate, given with out a receipt, but we aren't rude! It will be donated to an appreciative child

Re: Is this rude?!
Who cares if it was a regift? More of a reason NOT to ask! Everyone with kids and constant birthday parties regift.

Re: Is this rude?!
I think it is classless. It is a gift. You accept it. You don't ask for a receipt ever.

Even if it was a regift, which she doesn't know, it doesn't matter. You never ask for a receipt. Low class, but everyone is raised differently. Actually seems sad on her part...I wouldn't attend parties that the family acts like that.

A gift is just that - a gift.
If you're child has it already then oh well. Re-gift to another child, donate it to a charity, keep a spare at in laws house whatever.
We didn't have a bday party for DS this year but he still got a lot of gifts from family and close friends. Some were duplicates others he wasn't interested in. I didn't return anything because truthfully, he doesn't need anymore toys. I didn't feel the need to replace any of them with new ones.
So we gave him some to play with and the rest are still in a bag in a closet or I have regifted. We did the same with Christmas toys.
I think its rude to call and ask for a reciept.

I think it depends on your relationship with her
If one of my friends asked - I wouldn't bat an eye
agreed a CLOSE friend or family member I might ask (and probably wouldn't even then) but anyone else no way!
