Re: HPV testing
I tested negative but I have many friends who tested positive.
With them, they just have to be watched. More Paps to check for changes. Other then that, there is no cure for it. If it's the kind that causes warts, you can have them removed. Or if you have an abnormal pap, there are treatments for that.

Re: HPV testing
I just got a call I tested positive for this with a normal pap. I got tested a year and a half ago for HPV and it was negative. I've been married for years. I had so many tests with fertility treatment and no STDs came up, so I am stunned to get this call and not sure what to make of it.

HPV testing
I think it can lay dormant for years if I'm remembering correctly. My college roommate had it and needed a procedure done.

I heard this as well. It can pop up years after you contract it. Ask you dr. He/she should be able to answer this question. They probably get asked that more often then you think

Re: HPV testing
I tested positive over 12 years ago. All you have to do is get Pap smears regularly. There is no treatment available. The virus can be dormant before it appears.

Re: HPV testing
I tested positive for HPV back in 2005. Just because it showed up now, doesn't mean you just got it. It is very possible that you have had it for some time and it was undetectable.
There are 2 types of HPV...the one that causes genital warts and the one that causes cervical cancer.
I have the kind that causes cervical cancer and the only reason I found out I had it was because I had an abnormal pap. They tested for it after the abnormal pap.
For me, I had to have a colposcopy to see if there were any spots of concern on my cervix. I ended up having a LEEP procedure (outpatient at the hospital) to take away the pre-cancerous spots.
Within 1 year of the procedure, I got married and was pregnant. I had to get a pap every 6 months after that and just a couple of years ago I was cleared to have a pap ever year since I went 5 years with no abnormal paps. I also tested that my HPV level was undetectable.
Feel free to FM me if you have questions. What I learned is that it's not the end of the world like I thought it was when I first found out about it!
