Kindergarten evaluation
We got a letter saying that the school district does an evaluation before K. What do they evaluate?

Re: Kindergarten evaluation
I'm sure every district is slightly different. A few months after the conclusion of all the K screenings everyone got a form letter from the school district. There were a few different sections that could be checked - for my DS the first sentance only was checked so I am not sure what the rest would mean. The first section stated something to the effect that your child's skills and development are appropriate for his/her age group. The second second section said something like your child needs evaluation in the following areas and there were sections that could be checked related to speech, fine and gross motor skills and a number of other things. This wasn't applicable to my DS so I am not sure what would happen if these sections were checked.
I think this gives you a good idea of the purpose - they are looking to see if your chid's skills and development at this point are in an age appropriate range or whether they need extra help in any areas. Addionally we were told that the evaluators make notes on your child's personality during the screenings to help with teacher placement.
HTH!
