preschool as a ftwm
im thinking way ahead of schedule here but im really curious how people do this? what do you do for preschool if you are full time working mom? most preschool programs i read about are for a few hours a few days a week. are there full time preschool programs with before or after care for those that work? if so where are they in or near massapequa?

Re: preschool as a ftwm
I use Tutor Time as my daycare and they offer pre school. She will do the program and the rest of the day is daycare as usual until I pick her up at 6

My daughter is in a 5 day pre-k, it's from 840-240, I am really lucky that my mom will pick her up and watch her until my sister gets her at three. It has worked out really well!

Re: preschool as a ftwm
My 3yo goes to a Montessori preschool. It is FT 8-6. Her schedule is generally as follows: breakfast, circle time, work period (play with puzzles, letter lesson, etc), outdoor play, lunch, nap, either music/art/movement, snack, pickup.
I needed a FT program as a FTWM.

My kids' daycare is preschool once they turn 3.
Maria Regina in Seaford I think has full day preschool with before/after care if necessary.

Re: preschool as a ftwm
I think a lot of daycares turn to more of a preschool once the kids turn 3... they start doing more structured lessons and stuff. some might do the "pre school" part in the mornings, and then the afternoons is less structured as daycare. so that would still be a full day schedule.

DS's preschool has extended care for a fee.
I know a lot of families have a full time nanny plus preschool.

Re: preschool as a ftwm
DC is 4 and in a private preschool. They offer before and after care at obscene prices
While on my search for a preschool, I did run across what you mentioned - a lot of places that ran 9-2 or 9-3 that didn't offer extended care. I even ran across places that would close for the summer and just put a note on the door - or sometimes not even that. Needless to say they didn't get my DC - or my $. You will eventually find the right fit for you and for you DC.

I've been wondering the same thing! I have a year before my twins will go preschool and it looks like I'll become a SAHM at that point. They are in an in home daycare now with a family friend. If we switched to a daycare with a preschool program, it'd be way too expensive. So my only option will be to become a SAHM at that point. I'm already freaking out about it!

Re: preschool as a ftwm
Depends on your situation.
Most stay at homes I know send kids to preschool for socialization. They can pick up drop off after 2 hrs.
People with nannies will have the nanny do this too. If the nanny doesn't drive, kid can take a bus.
People who do daycare who I know don't bother with preschool because the daycare often does preschool programs. (not small at home daycares). Or they switch to preschool with super extended hours.
I decided to forgo preschool with DS. He's perfectly social and doesn't have any separation issues. I will send him our Gymboree "preschool" on the weekend in the morning. It works best for me and my complicated child care schedule (I work FT and leave before any preschool in my area opens and so, i have family members watching him in different locations).

I am skipping it. I truly believe my kids won't be disadvantaged for not going. They are with their babysitter who watches other kids so they are social and I will teach them what they need to know before kindergarten, lol!!

Re: preschool as a ftwm
I live in Eastern Suffolk, but my DD is in UPK. They are also a daycare. Her schedule consists of me dropping her off at before care, she then goes to her AM UPK, lunch, then start the PM "Enrichment" UPK, then after care. This has helped her so much. She was very shy and the socialization helped her so much. She also has learned a ton. I am a teacher and would never have been able to teach her as much as she has learned.

My friend has her son in a preschool in or near Mass Park and she has him in aftercare (not sure about before care). If you want FM me and I will ask her where she sends him.
