Your primary doctor most likely won't prescribe it to you if it's unsafe, but I would ask your OB.

Re: amoxicillian
I am currently on it at 29 weeks - due to a bad sinus infection....
My Doc and OB said it is fine as it is a Catergory B medication.
HTH and feel better!

Re: amoxicillian
Unless you really need it, I would avoid antibiotics during pregnancy. Antibiotics change your gut flora which you pass on to your unborn child. Abnormal flora could possibly lead to other issues down the road for your child such as asthma, etc.
As far as "safety" of taking antibiotics during pregnancy, I believe what doctors are referring to is that it won't cause a miscarriage, stillbirth or birth defect, etc. However, whether antibiotic use during pregnancy cause more nuanced issues is unknown.
This is just my little ole opinion. You do what is best for you!

Re: amoxicillian
Since I *need* to take amoxil prophylactically before dental work (including cleanings) and a number of other types of procedures due to a heart condition, I can not avoid it (and some other meds) during pregnancy. My opinion, as well as that of my high-risk OB and my cardiologist, is that taking care of the health of the mother is paramount in pregnancy, and if you need a medication to do that then so be it.
Like I said, I'll be asking later today and will let you know

Lcherian, where did you get your MD, your nutrition degree and your busybody pHd? Your sole intention seems to be to browbeat people with your "education" in a snotty, condescending tone.

That is something that I believe should be determined by your doctor(s) and not anyone on these boards, unless they have a medical degree.

It always amazes me how people get bent out of shape when someone on the internet shares their own personal opinion. Clearly, the op was asking for a layperson's opinion, and I would hope that she does not blindly follow the advice of some virtual person on the internet.

There are no studies bc who is going to subject themselves to that type of research? This is basically came out of my drs mouth. You do it if you feel it's right for you and if the pros outweigh the cons. For me I was still trying to bf and had bronchitis so it was either not breathe/get worse/possibly get pneumonia or the potential risks. I chose to take the z pack

So I take it you have none of the degrees mentioned above? So you're in no way an expert? I'm bent out if shape because you clearly troll the boards looking for ways to preach to people and instill fear in them that they're doing something wrong, you never cite any scholarly works to support your claims and you do it in such a condescending tone that your message comes across poorly. Maybe you should rethink your approach to how you respond to posts and your "layperson opinions" will be better received.

We get bent out of shape because you seem to troll the pregnancy board pouncing on certain topics and shaming women. Honestly, HOW DARE YOU tell nervous pregnant women that something they have done or may need to do could hurt their baby. How dare you. A simple "not something I would choose" would suffice. You are not a doctor. And saying things about the potential effects down the road is NOT an opinion, so if you plan to do that please source at least 3 reputable medical studies that back you up (something we learn when we get a graduate degree in medically-related fields of study).
Just stop. It's not helpful, it's condescending, and you don't always know what you're talking about.

I'm a mother of three kids. There's a lot of information that I wish I knew before getting pregnant so I could have done things differently.
Like i said, these are just my opinions. you can ignore it if you choose.

Then here's some advice you can teach your three kids like my mother taught me: it's not WHAT you say, but HOW you say it.
You can choose to keep ignoring the issue that people aren't angry at your opinions, they're angry that you come across like a know it all.

Nice edit ...
Hey I have a suggestion for you...you should write ads for those commercials for smokers. They also like to scare the shit out of people. You'd be very successful!

Here's my take on it. I am the mother of zero, but I am doing my research now so I can make educated decisions for myself when the time comes. And I happen to agree with much of what you say. I am not pro antibiotics, but I am this way because I know my body. I know that during allergy season allegra does nothing for me that taking local raw honey will fix me up in no time. I do my research and make decisions based on what I read, I try to find more than one source to support my findings as well.
People on here are offended by what you post but how you come across as an authority. The same way I feel when someone makes fun of or attacks me because I dont like to take medication. I think your information would be so much better received if you posted your sources of information and say here is what I have found on this topic. Then people can make their own opinion based on what they believe is best for themselves. It's clear you feel strongly about what you put into your or your kids' bodies but so do many other people even if their views dont line up with yours.

I think it's fine that you share your opinion, just like everyone else does. Not sure why some are getting all twisted by your posts....because you seem like a know it all? Maybe because you go against the grain of popular opinion? I don't think that's fair.
I just see your posts as you expressing YOUR opinion and I take it or leave it just like any other opinion I read on here.
I actually think that you present interesting viewpoints, so thanks for sharing.

Re: amoxicillian
I took antibiotics both times I was pregnant and had no issues. There are a few that are safe for pregnant women and quite honestly, it was better I took the antibiotics and got healthy again as opposed to being sick for weeks on end with infection in my body.

We come on these boards to try and help each other. If someone has some information that can help us, then by all means, please provide medical proof and I would be happy to read it. I am an asthmatic and would LOVE to read the article or study that was published about antibiotics causing asthma. If you research the internet enough you will find what you want to find. Anything and everything is written on the internet and it doesn't always make it true. You can find an article claiming that antibiotics cause asthma in children and I bet I can find an article claiming the opposite.
To the PP, speak to your doctor. Your doctor will not prescribe something that is not safe for you or your LO. I always try at home remedies first, but make sure they are safe for pregnant women. My sister is an OB and would NEVER let me take something that wasn't safe for her nephew. When I had a bad sinus infection I was written a script for an antibiotic. She said the same thing a PP said, if you aren't feeling that well and nothing else will help, would you rather continue getting sicker and sicker which can potentially affect baby or would you rather feel better using a medicine that is not proven to harm the baby. Proof, my asthma rescue inhaler is a Cat C. If I can't breathe, should I just not take anything which will harm our baby with lose of oxygen in my blood stream or should I take my rescue inhaler?
Please speak to your doctor and don't follow what someone says on here because that is what they follow and they believe.
And to the PP who comes on all the pregnancy posts and tries to preach...go somewhere else and preach your beliefs. This was a simple "yes" or "no", not a "if you don't follow what I say you will harm your baby." Remember you are dealing with hormonal woman...you should know, you have 3 kids.

Crashing here. I don't see why everyone is attacking Icherian. The op asked a question and she answered with her opinion. It is nice to see an alternative view point and a different perspective. Take it or leave it as you choose.
