How big a bag is everyone packing? I feel like with all the stuff on the lists I need a big suitcase!

Hospital bag
Last time I packed so much stuff for a vaginal birth ( night gowns, loose dark pants etc). I wound up having n emergency section and lived in a nursing tank and robe the whole time lol. I was too sore for pants

I had a small duffle bag. Take the standard lists and cut 90% out. You really don't need that much

Re: Hospital bag
I had a duffle sized bag. I didn't pack any night gowns and after having to have a csection that's all I wanted to wear so I didn't use most of the clothes packed nor did I have enough. What I did do and plan to do again is have a bag of travel toiletries and always have my makeup packed. I also bought a new toothbrush so that was also packed.

Small carry on 1/2 empty to put gifts and stuff the hospital gives you (diapers, burp cloths, vaseline, creams, personal hygiene products, ect ask for extras too) loose clothing, flip flops, toiletries, make up, undies, baby come home outfit, camers. My SO will be going home through out my stay so if I forget anything or need something he can easily get it that day and bring to me.

That's a good idea about the small carry on, last time I had duffle bags and it was annoying. My DH will most likely be staying with me at the hospital so I will pack a change of clothes for him too...
Also, I would pack some granola bars or something to munch on, I was always hungry!

I agree that it's a good idea to do half the suitcase so that there is room for the stuff the hospital sends you home with and gifts. I might actually do that. I don't plan on bringing that much. Just PJs and a nightgown, some bathroom stuff, slippers, and shower shoes. DH is not going to sleep at the hospital with me, we live 8 miles from LIJ. I'm going to pack him an extra shirt and just some snacks.

Hospital bag
Last time I took my LV duffle but it was a pain in the ass because the day I left it was so packed I couldn't zip it. I am in the hunt for a small rolling suitcase(the ones I have are too big).

I packed a small carry-on and then DH brought a larger suit case to bring home everything we got for DS while we were in the hospital. You really don't need much, I definitely over packed.

Re: Hospital bag
My first child I had a large suitcase...with my 2nd and this one I've cut it down to a small rolling suitcase and I'll send things home with DH as I don't need them.

Re: Hospital bag
I used a small rolling carry on b/c we didn't have any other bags. I hardly touched anything in my bag, except the toiletries and my robe. I had a c/s so all the pants I bought were too uncomfortable and I had to have DH go out and buy me a nightgown.
I wouldn't worry about forgetting something because your DH or another visitor can just bring stuff to you from home. Most of the essentials the hospital has.
