Homemade Kale chips
Sounds and looks so easy, but I screwed them up.
Please let me know how (in detail) you make them.
I followed the simple directions:
wash, dry, cut up, mix with olive oil and salt and bake.
I made 3 batches and all of them weren't great in different ways.
Some were too salty, some were too burnt, some were too soggy...
I bought a bag from Trader Joes to see the difference and clearly store bought is going to be different but wow... it was barely the same thing.
For the few chips that came out good from about 2 pounds of kale, they were so yummy and NO guilt about eating "chips".

Re: Homemade Kale chips
Was the Kale completely dry or damp?
Instead of pouring olive oil on them; I mush the olive oil in with the Kale as if I am making "hamburgers" with chopped meat.
I make sure each and every one is coated and lay them on baking sheet in one layer; not stacked.
How long did you bake for?
375 for 12 minutes comes out perfect. I find on my oven 400 is too high for them.
ETA: I add salt after they are baked; not before.

Re: Homemade Kale chips
I lightly spray them with Pam so there's only a light coating rather than the heavier olive oil. And make sure they're spread out evenly. Oh, now I want some, lol!

That's how I do it too. I use a salad spinner.

Re: Homemade Kale chips
There were a quite a few that might have been damp still and I salted before I baked them. I see that is wrong from what you guys are saying. I did make sure they were totally coated in EVOO. I don't remember exactly how long I cooked them but I know it was like 10 minutes and then I flipped them and then I baby-sat them until I saw them start to get brown.
Do you have to flip them mid-way through cooking?

Re: Homemade Kale chips
When I make them, the kale is completely dry first. then i mix it with a little evoo, i basically drizzle it over the baking sheet and then toss with my hands. I sprinkle with salt and pepper before baking. What temp do you use? Mine cook best when I do it on 400 for 10-15 minutes.

Re: Homemade Kale chips
definitely make sure the kale is dry....i put evoo and salt and pepper - bake at 400 for about 10 minutes. i do flip in the middle. thy come out crucnhy but i think if the leaves are wet that is why it was soggy...
