In very torn on what to do and could use some other perspectives.

I've been with one practice for the past couple of years and had thought about switching, but decided to stay with the practice because the obgyn I have always seen was very on top of things concerning my congenital heart defect. Ive been in for 3 visits since getting pregnant and theyve always been with partners. At my 12 week appointment, I asked if my next appt could be with my regular obgyn and they informed me that she has taken a leave of absence. I asked when would she be returning and they said it was indefinite. This bothered me as I really felt comfortable with this doctor and although I know any of the partners could end up delivering my baby, I felt she was really on top of my case. So that's one thing that has me a little upset.

The second is that I had blood work done at my 8 week visit on May 1. I called a week later to check on my blood work and was told if I hadnt heard anything, then all was fine. On May 23, the doctor I saw at that appointment left me a message. When I called back, the office was closed. The next day I call again and she was off so one of the partners told me the reason for the call was that I have no immunity to rubella, but every thing else was fine. Then on May 29, the doctor who originally called me called again. She was informing me I was a CF carrier. I asked her why the partner told me it was rubella. She said she didn't know because I AM immune to rubella! I'm not immune to Fifths Disease. I was quite upset about the mix up with all of this and when I told her she gave me this whole song and dance about how they are having problems with the lab. I'm also upset that it took them 4 weeks to get in touch with me- again, it was because of the lab.

I'm debating on switching practices but I'm also not thrilled with switching after 12 weeks. What would you do in this situation?

If you want to know who the drs are, please FM me.

If you aren't completely comfortable with the doctor I would say DEF switch. I know of two people who switched further into their pregnancies because they weren't too sure in the beginning what to do. They said that it was the best decision they ever made! This your life health and your babies health and I feel like you need to be 100% comfortable and trust everyone that you surround yourself with.

I would switch especially if your dr's status is so uncertain I say you have nothing to lose by finding a practice you feel more comfortable with.

I loved my dr. I found out she was leaving when I was 10 weeks. That night I went home and spent hours looking for a new dr. Now at 19 weeks I could not be happier. I would definitely switch.

I think its really important to feel comfortable with your doctor and their office especially during pregnancy.

I switched doctors at about 11 weeks because the office I was going to was beyond rude to me and couldn't get the stuff together. I am much happier with my new doctor... so far at least.

I see three red flags with this practice. Get out now.

HOnestly, I wouldn't feel comfortable and I would start looking for another practice.

Thanks for your responses. I was leaning towards that but thought maybe I was overreacting. I also think I want to have my blood work done again- I just don't see how it is was so confusing to read my results and then telling me all the problems with the lab.......it just doesn't sit right.

Go with your gut feeling and switch now and look at it this way... You are only 12 weeks pregnant, what if you felt like this at 20? If it were me I would switch now and not have to worry for the rest of the pregnancy if I trusted the info my doctors were giving me.

Re: WWYD?

switch! def switch, it sounds like you would have no reason to stay except hoping your dr came back and an "indefinite leave" sounds weird. . have you tried to google her to see if she is somewhere else now?

trust your gut, you deserve better care and all the big important things are left to come!!!

Re: WWYD?

Thanks everyone- I have the names of 2 doctors to call on Monday who deliver at NSUH. I'm praying one of them takes my insurance! I really appreciate your input- I definitely don't need to paranoid my whole pregnancy this practice is going to mess up again!

Definitely switch doctors! I switched at 9 weeks (for insurance purposes) and I am now SO glad I did because I love my new doctor's office! You need to be completely happy and comfortable with your doctor. 12 weeks is not too far along to switch. When I switched I even got an extra ultrasound because they didn't know my old doctor had already given me one!
