New School
Kids (10 and 7) will be going to new school in same town (private), when is the best time to tell them? should I wait till after school is over so they don;t breakdown in school? There is a orientation in new school next weekend (6/22). school ends 6/21, so i have to tell them before 6/22.
Thank you.

Re: New School
I would definitely tell them probably ASAP, next week is all "fun" at school and it will give them time to say goodbye to friends or get contact info/set up playdates, etc.
It will definitely be an adjustment; but sooner is better (IMO).

Re: New School
Tell them AFTER the last day of school. Avoid drama. They are young & will adjust, it would be a whole lot tougher if they were in HS. Good Luck. I'm going through the same thing but mine is only 6 & only attended this school one year... we are moving back to Queens & she is beyond thrilled she is going back to her old school (also private). We told her last month, maybe that was a mistake because she told some classmates & a swarm of parents practically attacked me. In hindsight, would have told her next week.

Re: New School
Didn't they visit the new school before you enrolled them? I would not wait until school is over. They should have a chance to say their goodbyes and tell their friends. Just because they are young doesn't mean they don't deserve that chance. I'm sorry, but I don't think it's right to not tell them they are going to a new school as soon as you make that decision.

I agree with this. They need a little time to adjust, wouldn't you?
