Lapband surgery

Has anyone done this of know someone who has done this? My moms doctor recommended it for her because of numerous health issues. Just looking for info or advice.

I did not have lapband, I had gastric bypass, but I know a few people who opted for lapband. I personally feel that with lapband you need to be more vigilant about yoru diet after surgery, as the only component is a physical one. 1 person I know that had it, did not have any results from the surgery, but was not committed to weight loss. Others I know initially lost weight, only to gain it back. As with anything else in life, you get out of it what you put into it.

My sister, brother in law and my MIL all had lapband and HATE it. All different drs, and all say it was the worst thing they could have done.

My MIL can't eat right, my brother in law has not lost weight. I'd look into the gastric bypass.

My uncle had it done. If he eats too much, it slips and he has to get it adjusted. He's not skinny, but he did lose a little.

A family friend of our got the lap band, he never lost any weight at all.

MY Mil got gastrsi bypass surgery, she had to get it done as per her doctor due to diabetes and she lost nearly 100 lbs

My neighbor I'd it. She had a ton of complications. 6 months later she had to be admitted to the hospital for several days within complications from and had it removed

I had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy--much more permanent than the lapband, but the lapband scares me. A friend of mine's brother in law had the band actually etch into his stomach and he started leaking fluid and food into his stomach cavity!

I've known a few people who have had it done and there's been no difference in their weight.

I think the results of lapband are totally mixed and depends on the individual and their commitment post surgery.

My DH had lapband surgery 2 yrs ago and lost about 80lbs. About a year ago, he had some terrible gas and abdominal pains at one point so he had them deflate the band. He has not got back to get another adjustment. He works really hard to maintain his current weight. He goes to the gym 3-4 times a week and is definitely more mindful of what he eats.

Mil has it, but, IMo, does not eat right at all. She doesn't comprehend that you can still gain weight with it.

She has no complaints, though.

I had the gastric bypass. I know some people who had the band and it didn't work, slipped, needed to be removed. Feel free to MSG me.

Thank you everyone. At this point she's not doing it and trying to lose the weight with diet/exercise. Hoping it works!

A friend of mine had it, but couldn't maintain a healthy diet and gained a lot of her weight back. Losing weight it such a tough battle! I wish her lots of luck in whatever she decides.
