Spinoff- lunch questions
I have a dc entering K in September. I was thinking of letting him buy lunch everyday, but I am hearing the kids don't have enough time to buy and eat lunch.
Do you plan on packing lunch, or just buying? What are you planning on packing for lunch? I can't send him with a sandwich everyday, he is not crazy about them. Any snack ideas?
Tia!

Re: Spinoff- lunch questions
As of now I'm just going to send lunch with her.
I found great ideas on Pinterest- DD isn't crazy about sandwiches all the time but she likes tortilla, and Ritz crackers and turkey. I have seen some great ideas with granola bars, fruit, veggies, cheese and cold cuts.

Re: Spinoff- lunch questions
I don't think I know anyone who buys all the kids bring at my DD school. I am not even sure they offered it. So we packed everyday.
Dd has a lot of allergies and unfortunately for her was put in a nut free class so she was miserable. So we had to be very creative. We rarely took the same lunch twice. She is allergic to dairy, oranges, strawberries, cho vBulletin olate, and shellfish. She is picky but a diverse eater...
She brought some sandwiches but does not like bread bc it bothers her stomach some days.
She brought Fancy crackers with toppings - varied greatly from veggies like cucumbers and tomatoes to pepperonni or chicken etc. Tried to make it fun. Sandwiches
Rolled meats
Salads
Hard boiled eggs
Chicken nuggets
Soups
Melon with prosciutto
Homemade chicken fingers
Stir fry rice with veggies (made at home)
Hummus
Chicken salad and crackers
Whatever she brought she always had some sort of fruit snd sometimes veggieslike pineapple spears with cantelope balls and blue berries, apples, sliced avocado, homemade guacamole, raspberries.
Sometimes she got a mini blueberry muffin.
Etd to add she said her friends brought sandwiches cut into fun shapes, rolled cheese and meat, crackers with cheese slice veggie and meat. Cold pizza bagels etc.

Spinoff- lunch questions
In our school they prefer the K kids do not buy lunch the first week as they are just getting use to the schedule and how the lunch room works. After that it should be fine. They help the K kids order and let them go before the other grades so they get their food pretty quick. DD bought a few times a week.

Re: Spinoff- lunch questions
At our school we were told they prefer K kids not buy lunch the first few months. It is enough of a transition to eat in 20 minutes, if they have to wait on line 5-10 minutes, they will never eat.
By Christmas time DD starting buying somewhat regularly.
ETA: DD is not a sandwich eater at all. She brought in yogurt, cheese sticks with fruit, mac & cheese in a thermo, cheese or PB crackers, etc.
