Measuring when cooking

I'm just curious...when your cooking to use a measuring cup or do you just eyeball it?

Re: Measuring when cooking

I use a measuring cup when I'm cooking something like rice or couscous, where the ratio of water to grain is pretty important.

Most other things, I eyeball it. I'm a pretty good cook so I've mastered it at this point.

Baking though - total different world. You gotta measure everything!

Re: Measuring when cooking

First time I make something from a recipe I measure, then later on I can adjust for my own taste.
Baking - exact measurements.
Cooking - I eyeball it, unless as PearlJamChick noted, somethings have to be measured exactly.

Re: Measuring when cooking

Unless Im baking I usually just eyeball it. Once in awhile I will measure. But Im usually too lazy to bother. haha. probably why I like cooking more than baking!
