At what age did you do CIO?
DD goes down easily for the night but has been waking up around 3 o'clock in the morning. She isn't going back down easily, despite my rocking her, giving her the paci, walking around the room, etc. I finally get her to go back to sleep after around 45 minutes and she sleeps until 5:30 for her next feeding. I will not feed her at the 3 o'clock time because she is already eating at least 30 oz. a day so she doesn't really need to eat. At her 3 month check up, the doc said she needs to learn to self-soothe because she is relying on me in the middle of the night to get her back down. I did CIO with DS, but he was more like 6 months when I did it. He went back down fine by just giving him the paci until he was that age. This is my long winded way of saying, if your LO woke up in the middle of the night, at what age did you decide to do CIO? I don't know if I'm comfortable doing it so young, but what I'm doing now with her is definitely not great either.

Re: At what age did you do CIO?
With DS #1 I did it at 4.5 months. He was waking at 4 am looking to eat. He had already been sttn for a month. The doctor advised me to do it. I did and it was quick 2 nights. 10 min or less of crying.
DS #2 is almost 5 months. I just had to get rid of the swaddle because he is rolling and he is waking multiple times a night. I usually just give him the paci but it needs to stop. I plan on doing it before I go back to work in Sept.

Re: At what age did you do CIO?
IMO 3 months is still pretty young. At that age DD woke up a few times a week during the night and sucked down a whole bottle. She was hungry and needed to eat. It was going to sleep for naps and bedtime that was the problem for us and we started CIO.

Re: At what age did you do CIO?
I think DD was around 9-10 months when i realized she was waking just to have cuddle time. It took 2 days maybe 3 and then she was sleeping from 8:30p to 5:30a.

Re: At what age did you do CIO?
we tried it with DD around 4 months...it was miserable for us all. she was so worked up she couldnt catch her breath so i finally had to nurse her for about 30 minutes to calm her down (she normally nurses for 10 mins (15 max). we waited until 5 months and it worked
you know your baby best - you have to do what you are comfortable with. many moms on here say 4 or 5 months is too young, but i knew dd didnt need a feeding and just wanted to be comforted. she was too young to self soothe when we tried at 4 months but at 5 months she figured it out.

Re: At what age did you do CIO?
I did it at 9 months. It would have been easier on us both if I had done it sooner, I'm sure, but I wasn't ready before then. My ped says between 4-6 months is ideal.

Re: At what age did you do CIO?
It's very possible your DD is hungry. If she's crying, I'd feed her. Please don't get hung up on the amount you're feeding her. If you were BFing you'd have no idea how many ounces a day she'd be getting.
At 3 months old DS was consistently eating close to 38oz/day and our dr said it was fine. He was just a hungry baby. And he is by no means overweight! Turned out he was growing...big time! He went from the 25th percentile in height at 3 months to the 80th(!!!) at 5 months. At that point he dropped a bottle and started eating less. But by no means should you withhold food from your baby if she's hungry just because you are already feeding her a certain amount.

At what age did you do CIO?
Probably around 9-10 months. When I was certain she didn't need anything.

Never. DS started sleeping through the night when he was biologically ready at 18 months.

See, I don't think she is hungry because last week when she woke at that time I tried feeding her and she would only eat 1-2 oz. I did that for a few nights before I realized she wasn't really "eating" she was just using the bottle to fall asleep. When she eats at 5:30, she eats a full 5 oz bottle. So I know at that time she really is hungry. It's all so confusing!

Does she take a pacifier? Maybe she will need that to help her self sooth.

DD is 6.5 months and I just can't do it
Same here. DD is 6 months and still waking ALOT. Still gets rocked for naps, falls asleep on an 8pm bottle, and gets the paci, rocked, or shushed all night long. I'd love to get some sleep. Dr suggested we start CIO at 6 months, but I just can't do it. I know this isn't true but I can't help but worry that she'll feel abandoned or sad as she falls asleep BC mommy didn't come. I guess I'll never sleep again :(
