Happy Baby Pouches and Did anyone not give rice or cereal first?

DD is 4 1/2 months. Dr said try food. I'm thinking of holding out until 5 months. I also wanted to skip rice and oatmeal for now and start orange veggies. She already gets rice in her bottle because of reflux. Dr said its a personal choice but from what I've been reading veggies give more vitamins than the cereaL. Btdt advice?

With the happy baby organic pouches can I squeeze out a table spoon and then refridgerste the rest for the next day? Seems like such a wastE! We will be matching our own but for the veggies fruits not in season I wanted to buy.

Do I have to mix it with cereal?

I started my dd with orange veggies at 4 1/2 months. She was better at 5 months. I started with sweet potatoes and then went on to squash which till this day is her favorite. Then carrots. Then we moved onto other veggies and fruit. My peds doesnt suggest cereal because of the lack of nitritional value.

You dont need to mix at all. The pouches are good for 24 hours once open but youll be wasting a lot since those packeta are about 4oz. And your baby will start out with 1 tablespoon at first.

If you feel like its something you would do i might suggest initially making it because you save a ton of money and then use the pouches once she is eating more.
Plus you can really water it down which it needs to be at first until their body gets used to digesting.

Wholesomebabyfoods.com has great recipes and makesit super easy.

We started oatmeal at 5 months but quickly moved on to fruits & veggies. We didn't use pouches until DS was around 12 months and was able to finish one at a sitting. I made most of my own food but kept Earth's Best jars on hand for times when I had to give him jarred. With DS # 2, he is 5 months and we are skipping cereal and starting purees next weekend. Good luck!

We skipped rice because there's no nutritional value and due to the high arsenic levels. We gave DD oatmeal for a short time (around a week) before moving on to orange vegetables (sweet potato, squash, and carrots). We did the 3 day wait between each (give one for 3 days and make sure baby doesn't react). I make DD's food, but often keep premade in the diaper bag so that I don't have to be concerned about refrigeration when we're out.

I skipped cereal and started DS on avocado at just about 4 months.
He's 9 months old and has oatmeal every once in a while. Also with the pouches, they can be refridgerated for up to 24 hours (it says on the pouch)

I skipped the rice but did do the oatmeal and multigrain cereal first. Then, we added fruit 3 days later. at 5mo, I added veggies at lunch.
They eat everything and aren't picky eaters at all. I introduced them to every single veggie and fruit they could have!
Good luck!

DD hated rice cereal & the reg oatmeal so we tried the oatmeal w/banana & she loves it. We do oatmeal in the morning & a fruit or veggie in the evening.

Re: Happy Baby Pouches and Did anyone not give rice or cereal first?

ped told me I could give her whatever foods I wanted, in whatever order I wanted.
tried oatmeal first and after a few times, she wanted nothing to do with it, so I moved onto sweet potatoes.
it actually took dd until 9 months to entertain any fruit of any kind. so we're kind of on our own road with food.
I think many dr's have different opinions and offer different advice, so follow what yours said and then do what you're comfy with and what works for you and LOChat Icon
there's a lot of food in a pouch so a lot would go to waste if you did it that way. i'd buy the smallest jars you can find to start with.

I started at 6 months and gave fruits/veggies. For fruits that were out of season(peaches, mango), I bought the frozen organic ones and used those to make at home so no wasted pouches.

I am skipping cereal.
Rice cereal gave DS crazy diarrhea (which is weird)
Oatmeal he broke out in a rash. (I am following up with ped about this)

So for now I just give him fruit in the am.
