Flu shot if you never had it before
Did anyone get the flu shot their first pregnancy? I never, ever got it before nor did I ever get the flu but I know its recomended for pregnant women. I don't know how my body would react to it. WWYD?

I've been thinking about this too. I've never had a flu shot, and at 32w I'm wondering if I should get it or not. They say it's good for the baby and protects them for the few months.

I got the flu shot with both of my pregnancies. Its good to get it. The last thing you want to get is the flu while you are pregnant (you can get dehydrated and wind up in the hospital).

Flu shot if you never had it before
I got the flu shot for the first time because I was PG. I have gotten it every year since. I have not had a single negative side effect aside from a sore arm for like 2 days.
The baby has no protection from the flu other than you which is what prompted me to get it initially. They can't get flu shots until they're at least 6 months old.

I have never gotten the flu shot. I did not get it when I was pregnant with DD#1 and she is almost 2 and she has not gotten it either. I don't like the idea of putting anything extra in our bodies.
I am pregnant with DD#2 and I was just thinking if I or should get it or not. My gut tells me not to get it. The only thing that makes me think about getting it is the guilt of what if one of us gets the flu?

Exactly this! Never got it till I was pregnant with my first, who was due in the middle of flu season. I did a ton of research and from everything I read, I came to the conclusion that any negative side effect (chances of which are so low anyway), was far less dangerous to the baby (both prenatally AND outside the womb) than actually contracting the flu.

Never got it, and never plan on getting it. Like another pp said, I don't like to put anything "extra" in my body. My kids never got the flu, I never got the flu, so im good with my decision.

I hear ya but I'm just so torn. I don't like anything extra in my body either. Especially not knowing how ill react to the shot. I work w someone who got very sick from the shot itself.

I was just at my OB last night and asked the same question, i ALWAYS get a flu shot at cvs every year.
He wants me to wait until oct to get a shot and he wants to give me the shot because its a diff form of flu shot

I got one last year while I was pregnant but only because the nurse on staff that day was so pushy and even though I said no many times I finally gave in to her. I will probably never get it again even though I didn't have any reaction. I say this because the flu shot last year was only 9% effective which is pathetic!!

I don't know what I'll do. I've never gotten the shot so I don't know how I'll react to it. I haven't had the flu in at least over a decade. I'm torn.

I normally don't get the shot but I did with my first and will with this one. While I believe that any healthy person can fight off the flu without any additional help I can't say that for a newborn. For a newborn it is much worst and they can end up being hospitalized if they catch the flu. Not a chance I want to take. By getting the flu myself my child is protected for the first six months of their lives and also due to the fact that dc is being born right in the middle of flu season also has a lot to do with it. If I was having a summer baby I probably would skip the shot.

I got it for the first time when I was pregnant with DS1. I was nervous, but I had no reaction whatsoever.
I plan on getting it again at my next appt. Especially b/c this baby will be born in Oct and will then be protected throughout flu season. Also DS1 goes to daycare 2x per week and god forbid he came home and gave it to the baby.

I got it last time and this time. Nothing happened. I felt a little off the first day but that was it. I think that I would rather get it than have the full Flu and be 5 months pregnant and miserable with a 16 month old. She is in daycare and got the Flu last year so Im not taking chances.
and its mandatory at work, either you get it or you wear a mask.

I got it while pregnant with my son and had no side effects to it. Im not sure that I'll do it with this pregnancy though.

I know that I want to get it but I'm a little confused that my doctor said I could go to any pharmacy and get it (they don't have it yet) should I wait for my ob to have the shot??
