Check your library. Mine has great infant/toddler programs and its free!! You sign up a week in advance of the class you want to go to, and each class is between 30mins-and hour long. I try to take DD at least once a week!

Re: New stay at home mom
I became a new SAHM last year. At the time the boys were just 3 and not even 1 yet.
I went to the local library for story time, local playground, lots of errands (without spending a fortune, but just to get out), lots of walks around the blocks, etc.
Try a mommy and me class. I joined at a local temple, but they have all over. Some other classes were too much and hard now since I got a job, but work at home.
There are other mom groups I have seen get together at the mall. Try that meetup website. Even girls on here are looking for some places to meet at. This way the kids play and you get adult interaction Good luck!

Im a PTWM and became one when DD turned 1. Local libraries are great! Playdates are also great and free. And my church has a mommy and me class that is very inexpensive. You can also try various trial classes...you may just fine one that is great and not too expensive, if not atleast you had a fun trial class! Check groupon and living social sometimes they have great deals on mommy and me and other toddler activities! enjoy. Oh and libraries often have free museum passes so you can try that too. I know the Copiague library which isn't too far from you has a ton of programs- you may be able to join them witout being a resident.
