cutting out carbs from diet

I need to lose 10-15 lbs by Nov. Don't even know if this is doable but I will be happy with any weight loss at this point. Can you share with me what I should be eating since I want to cut out carbs. I have been eating too much pizza, bagels, bread lately. I need to really get on track. Any advice/input is greatly appreciated.

Cut out all/most carbs. Lean meats - like chicken.

Check out the 17 day diet. I did it for one of the three cycles and had success.

Good Luck!

I think that weight loss is do-able... November is still about 7-8 weeks away, and a healthy rate of loss is 1-2 lbs per week, so you can definitely hit your goal or come close to it if you stick to an eating plan that works for you, imo.

Are you have trouble with specific meals or snack ideas, or just looking for advice in general?

I don't cut out carbs - I love them! - but I do try to be moderate with them. So that if I eat a carby-breakfast, I try to avoid carbs at lunch. Or if I have a sandwich for lunch, I cut the carb at dinner. Would you consider a lower carb approach rather than cold turkey cutting them out? If I tell myself I can't have something, I feel like I crave it all the more... the whole "forbidden fruit" thing. So if you think that might be an issue for you, maybe you want to try to limit carbs to 1 meal a day and make them whole grains if possible. That might be a good starting point.

As far as ideas - One thing I like to do is make frittatas (basically bake eggs and other ingredients in the oven). It's an economical meal (you can use up extra or leftover veggies, meats, etc.), it's filling because of the protein, and you can eat it for breakfast lunch or dinner. Frittatas (and other egg-based dishes) freeze really well, too, so they are easy to keep on hand and heat up in the microwave.

Low-carb breakfasts could include eggs, a lean meat (like turkey bacon!), fruit, cheese, yogurt.

Low-carb lunches could be salads (topped with any protein you like and lots of veggies), soups or chilis (you can make in advance and heat up for lunch), leftover meats from dinner (could make lettuce wraps or tacos with leftover meat or with cold cuts), lowfat tuna salad, chicken salad, or egg salad stuffed in a pepper, tomato, or apple.

Dinners are easy - any protein with lots of veggies on the side or a big salad. Any pasta type dish can usually be made over low-carb (use spaghetti squash instead of spaghetti, use zucchini or eggplant in a lasagna instead of noodles), or any of the lunch ideas (chili, soup, even stews) could work.

Snacks could be yogurts, smoothies, almonds (or nut of choice), fruits or veggies with dip, cheese, etc.

Not sure if this was what you were looking for, but hope it gives you some ideas!

I have been trying to limit my carb intake. I eat a lot of salad and grilled chicken. I also like veggie burgers and mixed veggies (broccoli, spinach). I make spaghetti squash with meat sauce, taco casseroles, southwestern stuffed peppers.

For snacks I like greek yogurt.

Re: cutting out carbs from diet

for me I am a all or nothing kind of girl to see weight loss

the everything in moderation apporach just doesn't work for me

any carbs (processed carbs- not fruit) halt my weight loss

I am eating fruit, veggies and fish now

no dairy- no chicken, no meat-

question...if I eat grilled chicken with lettuce/tomato, ranch dressing (not too much) on whole wheat wrap for lunch and a light dinner (no carbs) would this be a fine for my diet?

Use a large piece of lettuce in place of the wrap.

Re: cutting out carbs from diet

I've had a lot of success with South Beach. The first 2 weeks kind of suck, but once you get through that, it isn't bad. I lost 35 lbs when DS1 was 18 months and kept it off until I got pregnant again. I went back on it again a little over 2 months ago and am down 20 lbs. I also exercise, which definitely speeds up the weight loss.
