The Congressmen were elected as well so "their" people's opinion's don't county. Our government has 3 branches, all equally important. Do we ignore one branch because they don't see eye to eye...and hey lets not even talk to them.
And it was Congress (men & women by the way) that PASSED the healthcare act . It wasn't put into law by the President alone. It is now a LAW and it is the Republicans who are trying to get around it in an inappropriate way.
How quickly some forget...
Yes, it was passed along party lines (no republican votes), when the Democrats held the majority in both houses, by a Congress that admittedly didn't read all of it, and passed it just to appease the president. The same congress that could have passed a BUDGET when they were in complete control, but failed to do so...
I'm not 100% against the ACA, and I am against the shutdown... But I do think that some aspects of ACA are unfair, and I do wish a compromise would be made!
It was also upheld by a conservative SCOTUS.
I know... They ruled it constitutional on the grounds that it is a TAX...which the president swore a million times over that it was not...and that it would cut the average family's ins costs by $2500...anyone seeing those savings next year?

Re: Reading comments by people on Cnn and this one caught my eye on why wont the President Negotiate....
my real life friend Mike was lucky enough to get on the exchange saturday
he was paying about $1200 for him and his daughter
he is now paying- $340 a month for the platium plan with dental
a 75% savings or $10,320 per year
Mike is the least likely person to support Obama and he now thinks Obama is amazing

I'm glad to hear stories like this, bc it does make me feel better about the whole thing. I'm trying to keep an open mind!
It seems as if some people, like your friend, are really benefitting, while others are not seeing the savings they were hoping for. I'm curious to see all the statistics next year at this time, once it's in full swing.

#1...I vote for Beth for president.
#2...even if the Republicans don't agree with the LAW...this is not the way to go about it! My 4 year old doesn't have this much of a temper tantrum. Why should the President give in?? I think he should start bending each one over his knee! I'm getting so frustrated seeing everyone blame Obama for the shutdown. The Republicans are the ones holding this country hostage. They need a time out.

For the love of all things....can people please stop calling it "Obamacare"??? It's called the Affordable Health Care Act. That Jimmy Kimmel segment was dead on...people are just against it because it's connected to Obama.

Yes thank you!!! And how frightening is it that people still to this day do not know that they are one and the same. And these people probably vote! It is really ridiculous.
Oh and btw, I didn't read the whole article but I caught a headline that the President and Bonehead met today and the President offered to negotiate (which really wouldn't do anything anyway b/c the House and the Senate are supposed to negotiate, not the President) if they would agree to end the shutdown and agree to raising the debt ceiling and SURPRISE SURPRISE. Bonehead rejected him.
He must be making ridiculous amounts of money from those Crook (Oh I mean Koch) Brothers.

I know! The ignorance is just mind boggling. My brother, who has MS, is an Affordable Health Care Act success story. One of many I know personally. "Obamacare" Ridiculous.

Re: Reading comments by people on Cnn and this one caught my eye on why wont the President Negotiate....
Well, I stepped on a 2 inch nail this past Friday at a park. It went through my shoe and scratched my foot. I got a tetanus shot on Monday and because of the Affordable Care Act the shot did not cost me a penny. So I guess I have benefited from the legislation already. Today, I took my DD for her 4 year old well visit. She had no co-pay. So thank you again to the Affordable Care Act.
If you look at history, people were up in arms about social security when it was first enacted too. Now, it seems that it is a sacred right that no government official can touch. Give this law some time and it too will be entrenched into the American psyche as well.
Are there good things about this law, yes. Are there bad things about this law, yes. No law is perfect. But the method the house is using to hold this Nation hostage is horrid. The Kotch brothers are bankrolling these politicians. I really have to wonder what is in it for them? Why are they so against this particular law?

My guess would be that they're in tight with some of the big insurance companies. But that's just a guess.

I feel that delaying Obamacare IS what the people want. Have you seen the polls? Have you read about the unions and the businesses fighting this? They need time so "Some" of these companies were allowed a delay. Why not all, why be selective? Because the law is not completely figured out, so why not delay. Forget delay, why not talk about it?
really? I haven't seen any such thing- everyone I know is trying like crazy to get on the exchange site - including myself
While I'm sure the ACA is great for some, there are many that don't want to be forced into it, but in order for it to work, the government HAS to force it on all people. They need the young healthy people to sign up to pay for the older generations and people w/ pre existing conditions...otherwise the system crumbles on itself.
However, this did not stop the president from deciding (on his own, with no vote) to delay the Employer Mandate for big business...basically the businesses that have strong lobbyists and that helped him to get elected. Why does the president have the power to say that this law has to apply for some but not all? Not to mention all the Congress, and Unions that got exempted from the law altogether.
The Republicans proposed delaying the individual mandate (meaning NOT FORCING people to sign up, but still leaving the option for people who DO want to sign up), just like the president delayed the employer mandate. This seemed like a reasonable compromise to me.
Thank you Mrs Damon... These are the real reasons everyone should be aware of but one has to be aggressive in the search for facts in today's media.
I still do not understand how he was able to change this law without votes but he is being sued by companies that spent time and money prepping for the law but then it was delayed. They are saying he changed it unconstitutionally.
I do feel it should either be mandated for all or it should be optional. Right now it is neither.
I also think it is so hypocritical to read on here about people's spouses being dropped or people being made to go part time and some say whew thank goodness we have union healthcare. Meanwhile these are the same people who supported it from the beginning. Say thanks to the last minute employer mandate that the rest of us don't have. Plus all those that got free care or are getting better coverage then they had, that is what is was put in place for but remember its not truly free and the true cost is still not known. Sounds like we should just fund it now and see what happens lol.

I think you are mistaken. It might not be fully funded by the time you are set to retire, but it should be there at some percentage.

I hope! We had a big debate about this in my family recently, and I'm not 100% sure either...but I'm pretty sure it won't be as good for us as it is for the current retirees.

Reading comments by people on Cnn and this one caught my eye on why wont the President Negotiate....
interesting thread.. obviously views differ by region.
Most near me could care LESS about the healthcare reform and find it as a coverup for this mess. BUT they want the president to sit down and at least TALK about spending cuts before just raising the debt ceiling.
I'd say its safe to say EVERY ONE is fed up with the whole lot of them. Shutting off Amber Alert but leaving the first lady's site up, blocking an open air memorial? I can't even get my money to repay for my father's cremation or his DD214 to replace his ribbons as the VA is now shut down. but that's ok by me. Just need our overall govt to stop spending like mad men.
Its strange no one has a problem with paying for everyone else's insurance but can't pay for everyone else's other needs. tax tax tax.
but im seriously fed up with a 'who is winning' stuff. Enough.. NO ONE is winning this as far as the folks who FEEL it. Them guys up there aren't going to really lose much sleep on this. Its a political ploy. on BOTH sides!
Seriously we need Term limits! And to kick them ALL out! (no not the prez.. im talking congress).
And I will say I am NOT choosing a 'party' when I register this year. Im fed up with the whole lot of them!

Just FYI, while the Amber Alert government site may not be up right now, that does not mean that Amber Alerts are shut down (or "slimmed down" to quote Faux News). Amber Alerts are still happening. Some extreme right wing sites are claiming that just because the .gov site isn't quite functional at the moment, it means that there aren't any amber alerts and that is 100% false.
And I did notice that letsmove.gov is still up but it looks as it has not been updated since before the Shutdown began.
Notice stating that Amber Alert not impacted by Shutdown

great news.. cause frankly i could care LESS about the government and their squabbles and I'd gladly hand over my ENTIRE check if it saved my daughter if she was kidnapped. ya know?
its one of those non-party related things..

Re: Reading comments by people on Cnn and this one caught my eye on why wont the President Negotiate....
Posted by lpnmj For the life of me I cannot understand why people are so against every American having healthcare.
The ironic part is that the government itself is not providing the healthcare; the government is requiring insurance companies to provide to all people and then providing individuals with subsidies to pay for it. Thus, some people are up in arms about providing subsidies to individuals to buy health insurance, yet have no problems with huge subsidies given to Exxon/Mobile and the farming industry.
People are so blinded by the concept of the welfare receipient getting iPhones that they are forgetting that many, many more law-abiding citizens greatly benefit from government programs.
