1st grade bathroom procedure?
What is/should be the proper bathroom procedure for 1st grade if there is no bathroom in the classroom?
Do you think that it is ok for a first grader to use a bathroom down the hall from their classroom, across from the gym, where older kids can use the bathroom at the same time, and without a bathroom monitor?

1st grade bathroom procedure?
Each teacher is different, but when I taught first grade my bathroom rule was once in the morning, during lunch/recess, and once in the afternoon. Students knew if it was an emergency they would be allowed again and of course if I had a note from parent/ doctor I made an exception.

Re: 1st grade bathroom procedure?
I had a bathroom in my class when I taught 1st, but even if I didn't, I'd let them go whenever they asked. At that age, they don't ask to go so they can play around in the bathroom. They ask to go b/c they have to go. I much rather let them go than have them wet themselves.

Would you let them walk down the hall by themselves to a bathroom across from the gym, that older kids use at the same time?

1st grade bathroom procedure?
In our school, the bathroom is down the hallway from the classrooms. The lunchroom is also next to the same bathroom. So there can be first and fifth graders in the same bathroom at times. There is a monitor close by, but they're mostly there to make sure visitors to the school are signed in.

Probably not! I've always had an assistant, so I'd send her with them. If I didn't have an assistant, I'd prob send them in pairs. I will say that for the most part, the older kids are really sweet towards the younger ones.

Yes, students always went by themselves to the bathroom down the hall, but it was just 1st and 2nd graders. That was our school policy. We had no assistants or hall monitors to help.

1st grade bathroom procedure?
I taught 1 st grade in Utah and there were mobile units outside the building. Those teachers had to let those walk all the way I. And down the hall to use the bathroom. They did establish bathroom times free recess and lunch for the whole class then let then go as needed. The bathroom was right across from my room but I did the same bathroom breaks, after recess and lunch but still let them go as needed. I would let my kids go down the hall if needed. If it was a rowdy class or something I would probably do a buddy system.

Yes I think it's ok. You can't control who is going to the bathroom with your child at all times.
