Providing food to parents at a kids party?

Is this a must?
Planning on DD"s second birthday party at a kiddie place, and the only adults there besides her grandparents will be the parents of the kids attending (the kids are our neighbors kids and our friends kids for the most part as well as her cousins, since DD is too young to have her "own" friends).

So, there will be about 20-30 adults there, do I need to worry about feeding all of these adults or just the kids?? Im not worried about the grandparents or our family bc we are doing an after party at our house where we will serve lunch.

Can I just do a coffee bar for the adults?

The party is from 11-12:30.

Providing food to parents at a kids party?

My DDs bday was 1130-1 and we fed everyone. In fact we ordered 9 pizza pies for 16 kids plus parents and there was no food left, so I think people were hungry and expected to eat. I always eat when I go to partiesfo other kids also.

Im sorry but your having a full on party. When you said the only parents going to be there it sounded like you were gonna say like 4 people lol

I would provide food. Most people expect to eat at any party. You dont want people being like omg i cant believe therr wasnt any food. You want them to walk away and go wow that was a great party. I say def serve food. Pizza is fine. Even a hero is fine.

Providing food to parents at a kids party?

I would have food for the adults, especially since it is right in the middle of lunch time.

They are friends and family!

I am shocked how you are referring to them.

Of course!

It doesn't take much thought to order pizza or a hero.

We just had DS' party from 11-12:30. Originally I was going to do pizza but instead went with bagels. I got a veggie platter (which no one touched) but nearly every bagel was gone.

Bagels! That's a great idea as well.

You can also pick up some OJ and one of those big boxes of coffee.

I would still do pizza for the kids though.

Yes you should but it doesn't have to be pizza (but that is easy). I have seen bagels, salads and fruit and veggie with dip, wraps. I would give more than coffee. Our circle doesn't tend to eat much so I have seen pizzas cut in half slices. I don't think you have to provide a large lunch but I have yet to be at a party that only had coffee or drinks.

Yes you do. It's common courtesy.
They are giving up their day to celebrate your child's birthday and bringing them a gift.
The least you can do is feed them something...doesn't have to be anything fancy
If you can't afford it, you may want to reconsider a party at an outside venue and just do pizza and cake for immediate family at home.

This! I have only been to one party where there was no food for the adults and everyone was complaining. It was awkward.

Providing food to parents at a kids party?

You need to. Get something as simple as a 6' hero and cold salads, and a cooler of soda/drinks.

Thanks for the thoughts, it seems to be the overwhelming opinion on here to provide food for the adults. I just remember when I was a kid we had /went to parties at outside venues all the time and there was never food for the adults. I guess times are different!

NOt sure what you are shocked about-- yes they are friends and family-- Half of them are family and will be coming to my house right after the party for a full on catered lunch.

All I meant was that the adults are all parents of the children as opposed to just adults who are invited to the party without children.. for example for DD's 1st bday which we had at the carousel, we invited a ton of our child-free friends, and we def had food for the adults there.. I do see a difference,, IMO ... between the two.. one your there for your child's enjoyment, the other you are there to respect the birthday child.

I had the same question about my sons party and got a lot of the same responses.. I ended up asking the people at the party place and because I was having the party from 230-4, the guy said most parents won't expect to be fed. He was right. I ordered 3 pies and took one home. Everyone had cake. I had 22 adults at the party. Last year I had the party later and I ordered 6 pies and had none left. It was closer to dinner time..

Well, you didn't say that in your original post. You make it sound like you are just having the grandparents back to the house.

Every party at a place I've been to, there was food for the adults as well as the kids.

If ALL of the adults are going to be returning to your home for the catered party, then no, I don't think you HAVE to do something for them twice.

I did actually, but it probably got lost in all my other garble.

In any case, there will be a handful of other adults who are not invited to the "after party" so I am going to get a couple of extra pizza pies or bagels just in case anyone does want a light lunch .

Thank you for your suggestion everyone.

So true, when I was younger there wasn't food provided for the grown ups.
Now that I think of it, the first couple of kid parties I went to, I ate before because I didn't know what to expect.
Now that I've been to a few I know what to expect so don't feel like your crazy for asking.

dh and I talk about this. We remember the good old ground round parties and believe me no parent was footing a 10/pp for the parent. The parent sat and watched as the kids threw popcorn, watched the tv and ate their lunch.

Providing food to parents at a kids party?

i would, especially because of the time. If it was 230 - 4 then i probably would just do coffee and some snacks for parents but I think since its around lunch it would be best to have food for all.
