Have you ever NOT cooked a turkey?

I have never cooked a turkey and I host thanksgiving! I get the turkey catered every year from fireside because I am afraid of screwing it up then ruining the whole meal. I will probably never cook one"

Re: Have you ever NOT cooked a turkey?

I didnt for many years but once I did I didnt get why everyone always was afraid to make one. It is one of the easiest things to make. I basically get it ready, throw it in the oven and wait until it is done. That's it.

I'm 32 and never cooked one in my life. No plans to, either!

Yup. I'm 30. If I never do it, I'd be quite alright with that!

Re: Have you ever NOT cooked a turkey?

I never have bc my mom ALWAYS has a huge Thanksgiving at her house. This post has me thinking that I need to learn though, bc I'd love to host the Thanksgiving dinner one day like she does now. It's something my entire family (aunts/uncles/cousins & more) look forward to every year. I better learn how to keep the tradition going!

I've never cooked one. Thanksgiving is always at my sister's or DH's Aunt's house.

Have you ever NOT cooked a turkey?

It seems intimidating but is ridiculously easy. I use an electric roaster oven and it comes out moist and delicious every time. You just put it in there and leave it for a zillion hours

Am I the only one who makes turkey even when it's not Thanksgiving? We make a turkey with all of the trimmings a few times a year because it's delicious!

Ironically, a turkey is about the only thing I can "make." Chat Icon In my mind, it's the sides that are a pain in the a$s. Chat Icon

I never have and can't imagine that I ever will. I have had Thanksgiving at my house, but either my mom or MIL have done the turkey. If they decide to stop cooking the turkey, everyone can enjoy my delicious lentil loaf Chat Icon

Re: Have you ever NOT cooked a turkey?

I never have but I rarely make anything with meat. Also, no one in my family likes turkey so we have skipped it, had small turkeys or had pre-cooked.

Generally, I only have at Thanksgiving time.

We tend to have enough leftovers that I'm sick of it until the following year. Chat Icon

I never have. We're hosting Thanksgiving this year too, but my Dad insists on making the turkey. I have no problem with that!Chat Icon

I'm also embarassed to admit that I've never roasted a whole chicken either.Chat Icon

I never have. I got a wonderful roasting pan for my bridal shower in 2010. Still no turkeys. My current oven couldn't even fit a full sized cookie sheet let alone a turkey. Chat Icon

Re: Have you ever NOT cooked a turkey?

I never have because my parents always host. I have made a whole chicken and whole duck before, so I am sure I can manage it (provided it would fit in my oven), but I would be nervous because the first time would probably be for guests.
