Hsg test
I met with an RE today and an HSG was one of the few times he wants to run.... It's sounds unpleasant and I'm not sure if I'd rather give it more time...
What exactly us involved? Was it uncomfortable? Where in your cycle were you? Why was this test done- standard? Specific reason?
Anything else I need to know? Tia

Hsg test
They shoot dye into your uterus and Fallopian tubes to check for blocking. I felt cramping but that's it, not that bad the worst part was them inserting the catheter. I believe it's done before day 10 of your cycle but after your period is over. I think its standard to a certain extent.
If you have to get it done, don't worry at all you will be ok. Just wear a pad once done. GL.

Don't worry this is nothing. Take some pain meds before you go and you will be ok.

Hsg test
I took some Advil beforehand and had no pain.. Just some mild discomfort. The test was fast for me.. I was in the waiting room longer!

Re: Hsg test
I agree with the other ladies, it's really not that bad. Take a few pain killers before you go. it's just a little cramping like AF. It was over in less than ten minutes for me. That very first cycle after I had it done, I got pregnant. Take a sanitary napkin with you, just in case of extra fluid. It was was before I o and right after AF.

Re: Hsg test
I think everyone is different. I have a pretty good pain tolerance and it was not pleasant for me! I also did not take any pain meds before hand which I regret! But I must say Dr. Zilkha and his nurse were great! If you live near West Islip try to go there :) They did it as quick as possible. Afterwards I was fine but just the initial procedure sucked for me!!!! I had mine done last April….I was all clear but no BFP yet for me yet!
Good luck and just get it out of the way!!

Just had one two weeks ago. Took Advil. Minor discomfort. Think it was mostly in my head. Took few min. Check tubes and part of uterus. Did it before cycled day 10..

Re: Hsg test
If your RE recommended you get it, I'd get it done, particularly if you're having IUIs. If you have a blockage, then you're really just wasting time and money with the IUIs.
The HSG is different for everyone. I had no blockages but I had very severe cramps during/after my HSG. However, it all dissipated within about a half hour...and 2 weeks later I got a BFP. I'd have done it a hundred times to have my DS. And to be honest, the cramps you'll feel is really nothing compared to childbirth...which is really your end goal in this, right?
So basically suck it up and get the test done! (How's that for tough love!)

See, Im not sure he is rec'd because I NEED it or because he is just running every test....
I got pregnant with my 1st 2 children, right away with no medical help...This time it hasn't been so easy, and there is no reason as of to why...
The treatment plans we discussed varied from nothing to IVF but all depended on the results of everything....
Ultimately, Ill end up doing it but was wondering if this was something that was done standardly or usually if there is some signs/symptoms that warrant it.

Hsg test
I agree with everyone else take pain meds before hand and everything should be good. I did it between cd7-10. It was not painful at all but I did take the day off from work just in case it depends on you.

If you're going straight to IVF, then no need to get it done. If you're doing IUI might as well get it done. You could always try IUIs for a month or 2 and then do the HSG if that's how you want to do it, but if you do have a blockage, then you might as well find out sooner than later. I did 2 IUIs before getting the HSG. The month I got the HSG is also the month I got a BFP. But it was also the first month I had multiple follies b/c it was the first month I had done injectables instead of Clomid. So basically I have no idea what contributed to the BFP, but all the stars aligned then.
Hope your journey is short!

Re: Hsg test
Even if you are ONLY doing IVF, its an important test. Not only does it look at your tubes but also your uterus, shape, abnormalities, polyps, fibroids, etc. All of that is important for implantation and a successful pregnancy.

I have no idea if IVF or IUI is gonna be needed.... Right now, all we know is TTC for 6 months- not ovulating or getting AF regularly...
Hoping tests will show something, and we'll have a game plan from there!
Thanks!

Re: Hsg test
Best of luck to you. Its not pleasant but its ok. I agree with the pp- take some pain meds (tylenol, advil, etc.) before you go and you should be solid.

Hsg test
My old dr. did not think I needed it- i got it done anyway and low and behold, I have possible scar tissue on uterus that could be preventing embryos from implanting. I would get it done regardless.

Re: Hsg test
I don't remember at what point in my cycle I got it done. The anticipation was a lot worse than the actual procedure. It very uncomfortable, but not painful. I had slight cramping after but nothing terrible. We got it done to make sure my tubes were not blocked and they weren't. We actually got pregnant the next month.
