Cat died on our property
So sad-- we noticed a white cat curled up on our mulch near the street this afternoon. DH checked it and it is dead. He said it had some grease tire marks on it but no blood/obvious injury. I assume he was hit (we live off a busy-ish street) and attempted to travel and couldn't make it past our house. It doesn't have any tags or collar. DH went door to door on our street but it doesn't belong to anyone.
So what do we do now? Do we call the town to come get it? TIA.

Bury it. You cant just leave it there. I dont think the town will do anything.

Thanks. No, we would never just leave it there. Just didn't know if you're supposed to report something like this. Meanwhile, trying to shield my almost three-year-old and extreme animal lover from all of it.

You can also contact local shelters to notify them--just in case the owner contacted them looking for their cat.

I think you are better off taking care of it yourself. I went through something similar and was told that the town wont come on to someone else's property to take care of it. Only if it were out in the street or something. Sorry you have to deal with this.

Re: Cat died on our property
Thanks all. Just an update: It looks like the owners found us, by word of mouth around the neighborhood. Not that it makes it better if it's a stray, but my heart breaks that it was someone's beloved pet.
