For everyone that is stating that this policy has been implemented as a cost cutting measure-
What is wrong with that???
There are posts on this site almost daily about how expensive medical care is and how much health insurance costs. Well one way to get that under control is to reduce unnecessary medical expenses.
With that said, I do believe that the policy is in place because a healthy baby should be with their mom right after birth. Your baby was in you for nine months, feeling warm, protected, hearing your heart beat - comforted- and yet you want just want to ship your baby off to the nursery right after? As if birth wasn't traumatic enough?
And this is coming from a c-section mommy. I hated missing out on my ODD first six hours of life because I was knocked out. No way in hell did I want her anywhere but near me when I was finally awake!
I said almost the exact same thing a few posts up, my post was quoted, but they left out the good parts, and I've since been called a name (so mature!)
I agree with you!

If a SAHM came on LIF and said something about "shipping your baby off" to daycare/the nanny/grandma... she would need a flame-resistent suit to handle the backlash. Just sayin'

Listen, if all of you who CHOSE to send your baby to the nursery are SO confident in your decision then what it the problem?. Let us "holier then thou" types have our opinions, and you be confident in your decision. What have you got to prove to a bunch of people on the Internet?
You are also NOT going to change my opinion or the opinions of those who agree with me about spending time with our babies being more important to us than resting for an extra few hours.
(And I'm actually looking forward to the names I'll be called after THIS post!)
And please, feel FREE to quote me, but don't omit part of my quote, as was done earlier, and my words taken out of context.

No name-calling here, but I may have to devise a new medal for you:
the "Spending Time with Our Babies Is More Important than Resting" Award. This medal is actually attached to a functional baby sling, so you don't have to leave your infant's side to receive the award.

I haven't given birth yet, and my 2 year old is currently playing with her Grandma...maybe I WILL go take a nap!

I think it's great if you agree with this new policy, whether it's in support of cost-cutting or spending time with your new baby, but it is so unnecessary to use terms like "shipping your baby off to the nursery" when referencing moms who don't agree. That is just mean and heartless. If you really believe that you are a better mom than everyone else on here then this is the WRONG site for you.

What do you expect people to say when you post things like 'I think spending time with our babies is more important than resting' OR 'let the nurses take care of the sick mommies and babies"
I mean really you don't see how things like that come off as pompous sounding????

Sometimes I ship my daughter off to daycare and have a 'me day'.
Other times I ship her to our neighbor's house so she can play with their little ones for a half hour. And even better, I ship her off with my DH, so they can go to the park, eat lunch and spend their own time together .

You're right, I should just start calling people who I disagree with names instead of stating my opinions.
Sorry if my pompous and tactless opinions are worded incorrectly for your liking. At least I'm not flat out attacking anyone bc of their specific opinions.
I'm such a terrible person for thinking a nurses time is better spent helping people who really need medical care, instead of feeding healthy babies w/ tired mommies.....
ETA: why do you care HOW I state my opinions...if you don't like them, ignore them...I didn't personally attack you or anyone.

But I think people get overly sensitive to this also.
I would have gladly shipped my DS off to the nursery if they would have let me.
I have zero issue with anyone's opinion or how they are worded because I am 100% confident in the choices I make for my DS.
I ship my DS off to various places 5 days a week so I can rest and play at my desk at work, I fed him formula, never counted ounces or tablespoons of food, fed him jarred food, let him CIO and I;m sure a million other things that people would have comments on....But I don't care what anyone thinks of my parenting.

I have no problem with people agreeing with the policy, but people do not realize how condescending they sound to those who do not.
FTR, I think that a woman should have a chance to rest and recuperate from labor/surgery if that's what she needs. I don't think there should be a blanket policy that babies have to room-in with mom. I am a big proponent of maternal mental health, and for some moms, that means getting some sleep in order to be emotionally available to tend to their babies. It does not mean that they didn't/won't bond with them. I had my DD in my room during the day, then brought to me at night for nursing, then we both went back to sleep. When she woke up to feed, the nurse brought her back. I certainly didn't "ship her off" to the nursery, as was so callously stated.

A friend had this and she had a C/S!! I couldn't get my DD out of the isolet on my own for the first day b/c I was still in bed with a cathatar. Plus I had them at midnight and was pretty out of it til 12pm the next morning. No way I could have taken care of a baby. If I open my eyes I would have been sick. Plus my other DD was in the nicu so I had to drop my DD2 off to the nursery to see DD1 in the NICU. If I had to keep DD2 in the room I would have needed a family member to help.
