Are you going w a meal plan or paying oop? If you got the TS plan then definitely look into character meals. Where will you be staying? Need a lil more info to give you more ideas.

If you plan on doing Animal Kingdom we really enjoyed the character breakfast at Tuskers.

Chef Mickey's is fun for a first time character meal. You should know that the food is rarely good at the character meals though. You are going for the atmosphere mostly! You should make your reservation well in advance. They often book up.

Book all your dining 180 days in advance! Do not plan on making last min reservations or walk ins!
We also like tuskers breakfast at animal kingdom
Hollywood studios is awesome for little ones - best place for Pixar characters (our fav parade) and disney jr.
Go to toy story mania at H.S. at rope drop otherwise the line will be too long later on!
If you can - do all 4 parks - 1 full day at each (no need for paying extra for park hopper - ESP with little ones!) We enjoyed spending all day in each park - there is something for all ages at all 4 parks
We stated at value resort and thought it was great! We used the buses and had no issues!

ITA and the food is really good there too surprisingly!
As the PP said... do a park a day. Don't waste your money on a hopper.
MK - all rides are fun. We spent most of the rides at Tomorrow Land. Laugh Factory is too funny, love Space Mountain, Dumbo (don't ever get a fast pass for Dumbo bc they have an indoor play area which is a nice break for you to cool off while they run around indoors), if you have girls get the fastpass for the princesses or do the Princess breakfast. We have boys so never did that. Def the Buzz Lightyear ride, Haunted House, anything with 3D glasses is great, etc
If you can do a character meal at Chef Mickey's. We never did and I was fine with Tusker House at AK and Hollywood and Vine at HS. Epcot has some awesome rides for the older kids. Not as much with the younger, but we had fun playing with the games and met a ton of charecters there. Also great area for adults to walk around the countries and have a drink. HS was eh for my kids, but the Toy Story Mania is a must and you HAVE to get fastpasses for that. AK is awesome too. So much to look at. Go see the Bug 3D movie too. Oh, and you HAVE to see the Lion King show. It is AWESOME!

IF you are doing the crystal palace breakfast, try to get reservations before the park opens. Then you get to see Main Street and the castle with no one there. It was so awesome!

Def do Chef Mickey's. You will have a great time!
Are you kids into Disney Jr? Then I would recommend Hollywood Studios!
Also if you have girls that are interested in princesses, I would check out either Akershus at Epcot or Cinderella's Royal Table at Magic Kingdom. Maybe even do the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique..little girls love this!
