Good School Districts for Special Education
I am not currently happy with my school district in Hempstead. I will be moving this summer before next school year start. Can anyone tell what school district has a good Special Education program? Nassau or Suffolk County.
Thanks, Rina

Re: Good School Districts for Special Education
DS has needed services through CPSE. He will be 5 in December.
A lot of people (primarily outsiders) poo poo my district because of the diversity, however, I am in Copiague and so far we are very satisfied.
The district has continued to offer him services consistently, even at times when we felt he was doing well and did not necessarily need them.
Please feel free to FM if you have any other specific questions.
He also is currently in the universal Pre-K at Stanford and they are awesome.

Re: Good School Districts for Special Education
Thanks, I work in Northport I will look into that area. My daughter is in Kindergarten and she was in a center based school until August of this year. Once they reached kindergarten age the CSE process can become difficult.

Just from what I've heard.. Half hollow hills, west islip, sayville, smithtown.
We are in bay shore and have not had a problem with services. My ds is not classified but he has a 504.

Good School Districts for Special Education
The districts that I believe have good services are Half Hollow Hills (the top), Three Village, Rocky Point. You really need to figure out what kind of services you are looking for. Some schools have great inclusion programs, some are great overall, some have excellent ABA programs. Some people move to certain districts knowing they will cross district their children so they end up paying lesser taxes and still get services. For the best overall programs though I would go with the three I listed. I'm not familiar with Nassau only to say don't go to Oceanside. Good luck.

Thanks, I do not want to live so far out in Suffolk County. Nassau and Suffolk County borderline is ok.

Re: Good School Districts for Special Education
I'm right on the border. I actually work in Manhasset and it takes me on average 30 minutes to get to work.
There's so much around me too in either direction.
Again FM if you have any specific questions about the town/area in general.

I don't have personal experience, but from what I've heard from friends and family, Levittown is a great district in terms of special education.

I second Lindenhurst! My DD is in 3rd grade here and we've had a great experience.

Northport. We have been extremely happy with what they have offered both of my kids.
Half Hollow Hills is also great (I've heard a lot about it).
