Good for you! We have recently been in a battle with our school district. Due to tremendous growth in our area it looks like DD is going to get rezoned out of her current school and into a slightly lower rated school. Frankly I haven't been too impressed with this school district and how they have handled the growth of the city where in and I have now been thinking that homeschooling might be a serious option to look into. I kick myself because I was insistent on buying a house in this school district but things change over time. I am also looking into charter schools but the application period has long ended for enrollment for next fall so we might be homeschool just for one year or if we like it keep going, who knows!
While homeschooling is very popular by me it is mainly Christian based education. As an interfaith couple DH and I prefer keeping religious instruction separate from their education so this website has helped me lots:

I am absolutely for homeschooling and am considering it for my daughters. Right now my oldest is going into kindergarten in private school, but if tuition is a issue, homeschooling would work better for us than public school. From the few people I've talked to, there is a pretty large HS community on LI.

Just curious how it's going?

My kids are still young, 20 mos & 4. I already had issues in UPK with school snack. My 4 yo was crying in the car because they told her she couldn't bring in her fruit anymore and had to have their snack (pretzels, goldfish, etc). I had to have a 20 minute discussion with the director of the program...ugh.

I am considering private schools and home schooling. I know a few families that do HS but they are SAHMs. I work PT but it's my business so I have a great deal of flexibility. Has anyone HS while working PT? With private schools, does anyone know of any that don't follow CC?

Sorry I haven't updated in so long!

It's going incredibly well. She's come so far in math I can't even believe it. This is a second grader who could barely form her numbers properly, let alone do basic addition or subtraction last June, who's now almost on grade level. She's an avid reader and writer, but her spelling and punctuation is beyond atrocious. That's her dyslexia though, and we are working on it.

Her anxiety and stomach issues are almost gone. She's doing really well socially, and looks forward to our homeschooling meetups every week. She seems really happy

Things that are harder than I expected:
-Our public school friends fell by the wayside REALLY fast. I was not expecting that at all. I've made an effort, but I guess it's an out of sight, out of mind situation, unfortunately.
- It is HARD to get Christmas shopping done with school-aged kids home all day! Yikes!!

To answer your question, I know several moms who work PT who HS. Have you joined any groups? you will find a lot of support there. There's a FB group that's ok, but the Yahoo groups are much better. If you want to join, FM me.
