Metformin

It's ruining my weekend! I bumped up from one to two pills on Wednesday and last night after dinner and my pills I was very nauseous and I had a rough night. I thought I would be better today, but I'm not. I am still in bed, very nauseous and very tired. I hope my body adjusts very soon to this!

I'm sorry Chat Icon How many mg of it are you on? I usually take both of my pills at night, and that has really helped me over the years get my body adjusted to it. I also know when I first started taking it, eating certain things irritated my stomach more. Hang in there- I think after a few weeks of taking it, your body will get adjusted.

I used to be on 1500mg, but was upped to 2000mg a few months back. You can do it either way, with my body it just worked a lot better (and easier for me to remember to take at once).

Either way, I definately have noticed eating certain things upsets it, just gotta learn what those are..fun!

And thank you!

Metformin

Sorry to crash but I was on Metformin to get pregnant with dd and ds and just restarted it tonight to regulate my cycle. Are you on regular metformin or extended release? I felt exactly what you are describing on the regular. I feel much better on the extended release. Also I feel better if I eat a well-balanced meal. If I eat a meal that is mainly carbs, I feel sick. I hope you feel better soon!

Thank you so much girls!
It was really bad on Thanksgiving, as I ate more carbs and fried foods than usual.
I'm going to ask about the extended release tablet.

Metformin

The metformin was horrible for me! Worse than the ivfs. Ugh. Hated it but it worked so I would do it again in a heartbeat. I had projectile vomit, diarrhea, you name it....I had to cut my dosage.

Oh my gosh! What did you cut your dosage to?

I spoke to one of the nurses this morning and she said that taking one pill a day is ok too... So 750mg. I just don't want to hinder my chances of having a successful pregnancy by lowering the dosage. I may also try 500mg twice daily.

I think ER comes in 500 mg only. I have varied between 1000-2000. 1500 was my dose both times I got pregnant. Istayed on it thru both pregnancies (as per my mfm dr) and had to max out from 32 weeks on. To build up to 1500, I started taking 1 500 pill after dinner. 5 days later, i started taking 1 500 pill after breakfast. 5 days later, I added the second 500 pill after dinner. Once I got used to the pills initially, I never had issues on them. In fact, I felt better on them. Hopefully you feel better soon!
Ps it also helps with weight loss. Not sure if that's a benefit to you but it sure was to me!

I have no clue. Re started me on it at full dose. It was way too much for my system. I think it was 1500 mg. I ended up just take 1 750mg pill. It did work though.

I hope 1 750mg pill daily is ok.. The nurse told me as long as I'm taking one pill daily it's fine. I don't know if I should try 2 500mg pills or just stick with this! I don't know how much of a difference it makes...

Re: Metformin

Sorry to crash, but can someone tell me what this drug is used for? I just did my fifth IVF cycle, got a bfp but then at seven weeks embryo stopped growing. I read somewhere that this drug may help with embryo quality, which is what I think my problem is.

Thanks!

First, I'm so sorry for your loss. In my case, I use it to help regulate my cycle (i have PCOS). Without it, my cycle could be 100 days+.

My re had me take it after our first ivf didn't work. He said it would give us better embryo quality. Dh was actually put on Clomid as well. It worked. We transferred a 6aa and 6ab and now I have a 5month old dd.

Thanks so much! I am going to ask about this tomorrow when I go for my d&c. I am running out of insurance, I think I have enough left for two cycles. I need to do everything I can to make this happen.
