BF Moms- Thrush question probably TMI
So after tooting my horn about how much easier BFing was this time around, I was hit with a major case of mastitis last week that has really thrown me for a loop. Thankfully I responded very well to the antibiotics- I thought I may be getting a yeast infection so the doctor prescribed me Diflucan (I took the last pill yesterday)
DD has no symptoms from what I can tell. When she initially latches on it hurts, but only for about 10 seconds, which is much better than it was a week ago. From what I can tell, my nips don't look any different than before, in fact, they seemed to have healed a bit after the bout with mastitis.
I do, however, get a very bad pain after I nurse. Sometimes its in my boob but sometimes it radiates all the way around to my shoulder blades. It's pretty uncomfortable and even kept me up last night after a feeding. Of course I googled it and its saying it could be thrush!
If you had thrush, what were your symptoms? Did you have to treat LO even if they did not have any?
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like vasospasm to me. I have it but it's getting better - Diflucan can actually make it worse which may be why you notice it now. Try to make sure she latches really well and it isn't a shallow latch. Also, massage your breast after nursing to help circulation. Look up vasospasm and breastfeeding and see if it fits. I also thought it was thrush but when it didn't get better with diflucan I did some research. It sucks, I know, but there isn't much you can do other than correcting latch, massaging breast, and time.

DS and I both had thrush, there were unmistakable white spots all over the inside of his mouth especially on his tongue. It was extremely painful for me but didn't seem to bother him at all. His pediatrician prescribed meds for both of us. Good luck!

You know that was my next thought. It seems to be a bit better today. I am hoping it stays away.
